Family fun and fishing is what the locals like about Boca Chica Beach, but the relaxing views of the ocean waves are an added plus. It is a jewel of South Texas, and the secret is out! I have seen many out-of-state license plates visiting the area. It's one of the few natural beaches remaining where you can grill on the bbq pit without getting fined. I love the fishing, and I have stayed until 9:00 P.M. without any concern for my safety, and the starry skies are easily visible with no interference by city lights. Bring a gallon of water to wash your feet off because you'll be walking and driving on sand. You can drive up and down the shores, but please stay off the sand dunes as several native plants and animals live in those areas. If you visit Brownsville, you must visit this beach for its serenity and natural beauty. Some areas are already for sale, so get to the beach before Change occurs! You can also visit the rocket launch & construction site that has attracted people from around the world. The real family fun is on the beach!

I read about this beach park before going and was plenty nervous about visiting here. Most of my hesitation was due to the information stating the beach was best navigated by driving on the beach, and cautions that a 4 wheel drive was advisable to avoid getting stuck and stranded in this remote, off the grid, lightly visited area. However, the reviews mentioned the area is a shellers paradise and my wife is certainly a sheller. So, like any good husband, I swallowed hard and drove her to Boca Chica Beach. My fears were quickly laid to rest. The beach is just past the impressive SpaceX complex, which is a tourist attraction all its own. 2 tenths of a mile past SpaceX, the road ends and we had to turn either left or right or drive into the gulf of Mexico. We turned right and very easily drove over 2 miles along the beach in our 2WD rental SUV until we reached the end of the beach. And at the end of the beach was.....the mouth of the Rio Grande River, which was dumping right into the Gulf of Mexico! And not more than 30 yards from us were people on the Mexican side of the river fishing and enjoying their afternoons. It was a surreal sight and so nice to see the nature and beauty of two countries/cultures merging at that spot. I took several pictures and spent some time marveling at what I was experiencing. Then I turned the vehicle around and my wife began several hours of very serious and productive shelling. The shells were the best, biggest, and most plentiful she has ever found. She was thrilled! There were very few people on the beach. We had the whole area to ourselves for most of the day. It was SO relaxing, beautiful, and nice. We want to go back again and again. There are just a couple of things to mention: there are no facilities on the beach. This means no restrooms. There are trash cans on the beach but they were all tipped over and trash was scattered everywhere. A lot of trash considering the lack of people. All in all, our time at Boca Chica Beach was fantastic! Oh.....almost forgot to mention that cell phones may not work. Our phones said, "welcome to Mexico" so we shut them off.

Fantastic beach to get away from the crowds. Perfect for all ages. Sandy beach, shells, walking, fishing... great family area. Downside- no restrooms or portables. Be prepared to rough it. With the appropriate vehicle you can drive on the beach. Be aware not to sit or stand at the entrance where people are trying to get into and out of the area.

We visited Boca Chica beach due to the reviews of it's solitude. The beach is not crowded at all! We were there from 8 -3pm and there was literally only about 10 cars total on the entire beach! So if you are looking for solitude, this is the beach for you! It is far away from South Padre crowds. It is very natural beach. There is nothing out there for almost 15 miles. The water is clean and the waves are nice. Some seaweed on the shore but not so bad in the water. Only Sad thing is that the few people who do visit this beach leave some pollution. Or maybe some things carried onto shore by the ocean...However, if you go there, you can be part of the solution and pick up the few plastic bottles you see...there are trash cans at the back of the beach....On a happier note, there are great amount of shells! It is ideal for shell hunting. It is ideal for private picnic. I would say it is probably the most isolated beach you can find with no crowds. We set up our camp up, had complete solitude, picnicked, and over all had a very lovely time.

After reading some poor reviews I had to see for myself. This is the best secret in all of Texas. You can drive for miles north or south. The beach is not as crowded as S.Padre Island and there are no amenities available so come well prepared. We saw many families parked feet from the water with their grills and fishing poles. The beach was very clean although the water is murky the first 100-150ft out, I don't know if it's always like that but it didn't deter people from swimming. The jetties are a great place for fishing, you need good footwear to traverse them. All in all I was impressed and am planning a fishing trip in the near future. You must be aware that this beach is a good 15 miles away from anything so as the Boy Scouts say "Be prepared"

Launch and production sites are right along the road and Michael with spi-shuttle.com arranged the trip for us. It took us all together 3 hours from the island to see the launch site and back to SPI. There are no toilets except the gas station we pulled in in Brownsville. Bets spot for making photos of the actual launch site is from the sand dunes. If you can bring your tele. lens it will help.
There were drinks in the bus but you might bring snacks with you

I was unfortunate. There was a weather event that caused the beach to be covered with Portuguese man of wars and jellyfish. It was extremely rough and tended to make me nauseous. Still enjoyed getting to view SpaceX Starship from the beach.

We drove from S Padre Island to Boca Chica Beach, roughly a 40-45 minutes drive. You take Hwy 4(Boca Chica Rd) to the end literally. We passed Space X on the way as well as some historical markers. Once you turn right onto the beach, you drive maybe two miles or so to the tip of Texas where you will see the Rio Grande meets the Gulf of Mexico. Directly across the beach is Mexico which is 30-40 yards. There were quite a few cars on the other side and people fishing. Border Patrol confirmed this on our drive back to Harlingen, TX. Overall this was an amazing experience and I will definitely return to hang out for the day.!!

It was a surreal experience to see the Starship rocket surprisingly close to the road. No security to speak of and then less than two weeks later to he able to watch it blast off and return to land upright for the first time. Pretty cool even if it f did blow up 8 minutes later.

I had a great time at this beach. I drove all the way to what I call the tip of Texas. The beach was isolated with very few others there. However, it's not that isolated. SpaceX is right there. I read negative reviews about the garbage. There's not that much garbage. However, instead of complaining that someone needs to clean up the beach, why not do your part? I filled up two grocery bags of garbage and threw them in a garbage can. It was actually fulfilling doing my little bit. I would have done more had I had more bags. Again, I didn't think there was that much garbage. The solitude of the beach was nice.

Also, the drive to the beach was very interesting with SpaceX located out there. There are many rockets to stop and view.
