We took our son to the zoo as it was within walking distance of our families home. The zoo is bigger than I expected but seems to be in desperate need of improvement. Its not that expensive and a good break in the day to take your children or get out and walk around.

I am not a big fan of Zoos but this one is nicely arranged and with the hot climate the exotic animals seem to be happy.

Sometimes Texans can be a little over enthusiastic in their praise of Texas attractions. In the case of the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, the praise is well deserved. The place is clean -- period. The animals all looked healthy and alert from the big cats and apes to the smallest exhibits. Indoor exhibits are spread around the grounds which... More

We live in Harlingen and find ourselves going to zoo at least once a year since we moved here. I've been to a lot of zoos all over United States and this one is one of the best I've been to. The unique animals and exhibits make it fun for everyone! We have teenage kids and they enjoy it just... More

They finally added an aquarium and although the zoo seems outdated in some areas, this zoo is always a pleasure to visit.

While visiting the area we spent a day at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville. Cost was $12 per adult and $5 for parking. It is a wonderful Zoo. We enjoyed walking the many paths that brought us to a very large assortment of animals. I especially enjoyed the primates.

We have been to many zoos and wildlife sanctuaries around the country, Columbus, Washington, San Diego. So we were surprised when such a small zoo left such a big impression. We were there on a Wed. afternoon and there were only maybe 40 - 50 people, so crowds are not a problem. With the exception of the Lions and Tigers... More

This was a very nice zoo & was very impressed with layout & details with landscaping. The animals all looked nice with nice coats so looked very well feed & kept. I would definitely recommend going because this was a nice smaller zoo

I've visited most of the zoos in Tx and while Gladys Porter isn't the largest, it has a very fine assortment of animals that appear well taken care of, even some different ones that I haven't seen before. What I especially liked was the trees and plants that were incorporated around the animals. The bougainvilleas were fantastic!
