I live in a condo right on this beach and I see it every day. It is a very nice area to come to the beach. You can either drive and park your car on the beach or park in the parking lot right next to the beach. It has public restrooms and showers too. The beach is cleaned almost every day with a grater that smooths the sand and buries the trash. The beach is open year round. Sometimes there are vendors selling food but not all of the time.

Mostly this deals with the beach by the holiday inn, just a couple hundred yards down is a public beach, drive up to the water (almost) and park. There isnt a paved parking lot like there is by the hotels, but there are bathrooms and free showers at the south end (far end away from the hotels. ie : the south end) Its very nice here. We've been going here for several years. From Corpus you go over the water to the island, about a mile or mile and a half down there is a stoplight with a gas station on the left. Turn left and follow that road straight back to it. Road stops at the sand (at a circle). Drive on to the sand and make an immediate right. You are on the beach, find a place to park and enjoy it !!! Depending on the weather over the gulf the waves can get big ( 3 feet, enough to bounce you around a bit) so be careful. Hope you have a great time if you go !!!!

We are here on a two week vacation and loving it. The sea wall makes a great running spot in the morning. And then in the afternoon the beach in front of it is not that crowded and has had clear Gulf water. It is not the Caribbean, but it is one of the best beaches in Texas.

We were here for just a weekend toward the end of June. We came out to this beach & were so disappointed to see so much seaweed.
I'm happy to say that when we came back the second week of August, there was almost no seaweed.
We stay at La Casa Del Sol, & it's not too far to walk to this beach; however, most of the time, we drive & park in the parking lot located just east of the Holiday Inn. Parking is free, & there are restrooms & showers available. The sea wall is nice if you want to walk without actually going all the way down to the beach. It's also a great way to walk farther down either way from parking before you walk out to the beach. You can also buy a beach parking pass at any of the Stripes convenience stores for $12. They're good for a year.
I was surprised at how clean most of the beach & water were. Several days, I walked in the surf from beach marker 216(adjacent to the parking lot) down to marker 225(past where White Cap comes out to the beach). Since we came toward the end of summer & were there on weekdays, it wasn't crowded.
We enjoyed coming.

Beach is not all that but much better than Corpus Cristi. They were charging $12 to park on the beach but could not explain why so I think it was a scam.

If you like to walk on the beach, but don't want to get your car filthy or sand in your toes, this is your walk. There's a hotel where you can stop for a drink and listen to music if they have a band. Sometimes my husband and I descend to the beach and walk north until we reach the jettie at the pass just north of the concrete walk.
Yes, you will get sand in your toes, but the walk on the jettie is great if you like seeing surfers and turtles and what fish are being caught.

Park real close and walk along the bay without the sand and bugs. Very soothing to the mind and usually not that crowded

I'll start by saying we need to keep all beaches open to the public in Texas. Just because the beach has gotten too narrow to allow vehicular traffic on a half-mile stretch, doesn't mean there isn't public access. Plus, it's nice to not have a cars zipping by. It's closer to Corpus Christi than the car-free beach in Port Aransas (cars can't park near the waterline).

Don't let the crowds keep you from visiting. Go later in the evening for less crowds and enjoy a gorgeous sunset. Or walk past the drive up side of the beach to get away from the crowds. Water is very shallow and no rip tide, so this is a great beach to let the kids roam around.

Padre Island is the place to stay and play when coming to the beach in Texas. The best time to come is when the kids are in school. Once school starts the beach loses 2/3 of its crowd.
