The building itself is architecturally interesting. The galleries are generous in size and therefore the exhibits are not at all cramped. One major exhibit focussed on local artists - it is gratifying to see this support of local artists. Eye to I, the self portrait exhibit was national in scope and very informative. The Chihuly chandelier brought back wonderful memories of his spectacular Seattle gallery that we visited. We were lucky to be able to take advantage of the low entrance fee of $1. We felt that a donation was more than merited.

Happened to go there during a exhibitions we really liked and were interesting; William Wilhelmi and Rembrandt prints.
However the permanent collection is small and mediocre.
Elevator was broken so I'm irritated I braved my slight vertigo to go upstairs across the bridge with low railings that don't meet building code requirements just to see a few idiotic plain squares. "Minimalism" exhibit my hind foot, who pays money for kindergarten construction paper? At least this shows variety I suppose. Donald Judd always was a great scam artist playing on the emperor's new clothes scheme.
Also, hideous building but that's not surprising for an art museum.
Go to the Art Center, it's free and more extensive.

We were between exhibits so they didn't charge us anything to get in. That worked out as there was hardly anything in there. It is a really big building so was really surprised to see so much of it empty. I am from Minnesota and have never seen the Minneapolis Institute of Art empty. LOL. On the up side, because there was so little we had a chance to read a lot of the detail on the art that was there. That was kind of fun. I was expecting more from it as Corpus Christi is not a small city.

The exhibition's generally are not well thought out, incoherent hangings. Bad art hung with good (no its not a matter of taste). The building appears run down, there is black mold growing in places. It looks pretty in the pictures they put up, but it has the feeling that teenagers are looking after the house

Great collection of pop art pieces that would be expected in a New York or Los Angeles gallery. The architecture is a treasure as it sits by the bay on the north end of Corpus. Can't wait to get back and try the beautiful cafe

Modest small museum on the bay in a great location. Art work was sparse with much unoccupied space. Friendly, inviting staff. Signage around the space was not sufficient although you are provided with a hand help map some rooms were not signed and no directional arrows.

Small museum. Mostly abstract art with some American or Western art. There's a small gallery with Spanish colonial religious art. That was interesting. The price of admission is pretty steep given the small collection. Very disappointing there isn't more. Very little information or curation on exhibits.

Not very impressed with this museum. Very small, not a lot of art. And what they did have was a little weird. I enjoyed the exhibit on the Spanish Colonial religious art, but the rest was a pass for me. At least it was free, so not a waste of money.

The Art Museum of South Texas is such a hidden treasure. There is so much to see and take in. There is a surprise almost around every corner. The facility is clean and well lit. The staff is so friendly and eager to provide facts and information. The views from outside are breathtaking and provide the perfect backdrop for engagement, wedding, prom, and birthday photos to name a few. Please go check this museum out of you're in Corpus Christi.

The art collection is not too exciting (but worth going through), but the building layout, the light, the views of the Gulf (strangely, USS Lexington dominates the views from many windows) are all excellent.
