Even though Bob Hall Pier has been closed since damaged by Hurricane Hanna way back in 2017, the pier itself it fenced off so no-one can access it, nonetheless it’s still the perfect place to park near it and enjoy the day on the beach, makes for the perfect backdrop on your photo’s. Signage posted on the side of the pier advising people to be mindful of RIP Currents which by the way, this day RED FLAG warnings where posted, the waves where high and White Capping in essence “Rough Waters” while taking a photo of my friend in the waters, a big wave hit him, knocking him forward and taking him underwater, 5 seconds later he cones up 10-feet from where he was and laughing, and says, that was like a roller coaster ride.
Side-Note: our friend who works with City Council from time to time, informs us: City Council did approved a 7-billion dollar grant to rebuild Bob Hall Pier, yet finding bids to do it has hit a snag, she tells us, just be patient, sometime in the near future, there’re will be a newer, bigger Bob Hall Pier

We traveled to Corpus and camped in a campground not far from the pier but it has not been open since we arrived and seems to be in quite a shambles.

Recently hurricane Hanna broke the end off this historic pier😔. I grew up surfing and hanging out here..hopefully they can stabilize everything and just reopen with the T at the end🙂

We came to Bob Hall Pier on Sunday and Monday during our spring break, March 8 & 9, 2020. On Sunday, the weather was overcast, cool, & windy. The waves were huge and rough. But the pier had a large crowd of visitors.

We returned on Monday with the weather being more receptive to fishing. The rates are $2 per person and $2 per pole. They offer military and senior discounts among others. Being seniors, we got a 50% price reduction. So we paid $4 for 2 seniors and 2 fishing poles. I had read on the Padre Island website that a beach parking permit is required to park at the beach. It’s like $10 per day or $12 per year. Not knowing if we would return, I had decided to buy a year permit because the fine is pretty hefty if you don’t have one. BUT the hidden surprise is the you DON’T need one when you park at the paved parking of Bob Hall pier.
The Pier has an adjoining restaurant and gift shop. The wooden T-shaped pier is in excellent condition after Hurricane Harvey. It has a concrete walk all the way around. It’s plenty wide and has two areas to clean your fish along with running water. There’s plenty of room even for those who bring multiple poles. As we walked to the T-head, we notice lots of angled drilled holes in the concrete walk. I assumed it was for the rain or waves to drain and not collect on the walk. However, as soon as I set up to fish, I figure the holes were to set your pole at an angle as you wait for a bite. How brilliant is that of the engineers!! The area on the T-head where we fished had a hole cut out on the wooden frame to place your pole as well. It served a dual purpose: one to hole your pole as you wait for a bite and to place your pole while you add more bait.

We used fresh dead shrimp and caught 2-3 small fish. Had lots of bites some which I felt but most I didn’t. I guess due to the roughness of the waves. Some people caught a small hammerhead shark and a large sting ray. But our highlight was a guy who caught a good size red. He cleaned it, filet it, and packaged it right there on the pier.

Bob Hall is a perfect place and save spot for fishing whether by yourself, couples, or as a family. Got to go fishing? Go to Bob Hall Pier in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Typical pier with fishing and a restaurant. Lots of parking, about 25 picnic tables along the shore.

Fish from the pier or visit Mikel Mays Restaurant and Bar. Great views of the North Padre Island warm gulf waters.

Nice quiet pier. No dogs allowed, signs in multiple areas. They rent fishing rods, was expensive. You cannot keep rod for 24hrs, you have to turn the rod back in by 10:30pm, then you can come back at 5:30am to make your 24hrs.

2 rod rentals, small bag of frozen squid approx $5.00, small bag of frozen mullet approx $4-5.00, 5 people was 72.00. 3.00 per person to enter. They charged per rod to enter, so rental of rod plus just to take the rod on pier another fee which makes it more expensive.

Not that many places to sit along the pier, take chair if you will be there long.

Bob Hall Pier is quiet, unassuming, but fun. It is like a quiet version of Cheers on the beach. It is a great place to go and have some quiet conversation; very nice variation of a quiet day on the beach.
