The Ajo Visitor Center is located in the old Train Depot. It includes historic photos of Ajo and the nearby copper mine.

Ajo is a small town, and admittedly, we were just passing through. But it was lunch time so we asked at the Visitor Centre for restaurant advice. We had three choices, so not so overwhelming. But ignoring that, the host at the Visitor's Centre was very keen to help. So much so, that over lunch, we decided we had to go back and talk to this guy again. He was most helpful and was doing a fine job of highlighting Ajo's merits. The Visitor Centre had lots of local info and, of course, desert appropriate gifts.

Lots of old mining stuff most from Phelps Dodge in the 20's and 30's. There are artifacts from the mining operation and the business office

Located in the historic Spanish Colonia Revival plaza in the heart of downtown Ajo, this is a wise first stop for all Ajo visitors. Apart from seeing the former railroad station and access to restrooms, this is a good place to get directions and information about Ajo history. Be sure to pick up Ajo travel materials in the lobby, especially a copy of "Ajo Historic District Walking Tour." This is a short (half mile, 30 minute) walking tour from The Plaza up to Curley School and back.

The Plaza in Ajo has been renovated and this portion houses a gift shop, with many products made by local artisans. It also has a variety of pamphlets for every corner of AZ.

We stopped here for information about Organ Pipe National Park and found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. Small fascinating museum about the once thriving mining town. While here be sure to catch the Plaza whose shops were once company stores. One block away is the fascinating Immaculate Conception Church. Photographers: wander around the area because there are many architectural subjects.

There is actually a lot to do and see in this small quaint charming town and the visitor center staff is helpful. What we found interesting: museum at the top of the hill above the mine is informative and the volunteers have wonderful stories to share, the cemetery has it's own story, driving around town you will see the creative restoration of small mining houses, the old school between the beautiful adobe churches has been turned into artist apartments with a community garden and cultural/meeting center with exceptional events, farmers market on Saturday to mention a few!!!

We were walking the Plaza in the main part of town and walked into the Ajo Visitors Center. The Center was the former train depot for the mining town. We had a really nice visit with the lady who was volunteering and she was really helpful and informative. They have tons of brochures free for the taking and we're very helpful. The enthusiasm and helpfulness shows the pride the locals have in their town.

We spent a short time here. Very informative staff person. A great place to start your visit to Ajo. There is much to see in the area. This town has an interesting history and attracts quite a number of snowbirds who spend the winter down here. We only stayed a couple of days.

I ended up spending 45 minutes talking to the attendant, Linda, born and raised in Ajo! She tells you the Ajo history, but only if you want to hear it, very informal and non-pushy! I wanted to hear it :-). She also recommended places to eat and stay, and answered all my questions, even about the surrounding (and not so-surrounding) areas of Arizona.
