This is a great photo opportunity, if you can position the capitol building under the arch. Just a nice memory of SLC history.

Not the original “gate”, but a replacement built in 1960s.

It is supposed to mark the gate of the original estate of Brigham Young.

This distinctive gate with an eagle at the top goes across State St. and supposedly was used at Brigham Young's home. Interesting to see when you pass it, but not worth going out of your way to see.

It's called a gate and a monument but it's more of an archway that spans the street. The monument was erected in 1859 and commemorates the entrance to Brigham Young's property. From here you can step right over to the Beehive House and Lion House (homes and office to Brigham Young in the 1800s). There is a great little cafeteria style restaurant in the Lion House (great rolls, pies too) and tours are free. you can also walk to the Salt Lake Temple grounds, church office building, reflection pond and beautiful gardens spring and summer. The Joseph Smith Memorial Building is right there too and it boasts 3 great restaurants and a free movie, family history center where you can use computers to discover your roots - free is always good. A walk in this area will yield much to see in a relatively small area. Spend a day in Salt Lake City and you'll want more.

This stunning ART piece is a true symbol of the beauty of Salt Lake City. It spans the main artery of traffic for the beautiful capitol city.
State Street leads to the Capitol building, itself a wonderful sight to tour. South Temple street is the Historic Register Blvd of old, Salt Lake City mansions. I highly recommend traveling both major streets spanned by the Eagle Gate.

It's a nice little gate I suppose. But I never thought of it as an attraction until seeing it here. Don't go to temple square to see the eagle gate. If you happen to glance at it while seeing the other sites then it might be worth a few seconds of your time.

I feel bad giving it a low rating because there's really nothing wrong with it. It's just a statue of an eagle over a street. I just don't think anyone should get the idea that they should make a special trip to see it.

Interesting information posted on the North West side of the gate. Stunning view up the street with the gate framing the mountains.

The Eagle Gate per our guide marks the boundaries of Brigham Young's property from back in the day. In modern times it is close to the entrance of Temple Square.

Located very near the Beehive House and the Lion House, this landmark can be easily seen as one drives or walks the State Street.

Per our Tour Guide at the Beehive House, this landmark shows the beginning of the property or land of B. Young in the old days.

It sits atop a wide street and dares you to drive or walk through it, it’s super cool in a creepy way. I love the dramatic pose it takes.
