Oh I love the opera and I really really love the Utah Opera!!! They offer world class performances with internationally acclaimed performers all in the gloriously historic rich newly renovated Capitol Theater. From the set design, the costumes, and the music you will be transported to another time and place! Carmen, Turandot, Madame Butterfly just to name a few. Either in English, French, or my favorite Italian! Love, loss, and love again! Love it!

I have seen this opera twice before and always enjoy the degree of energy and humor in its staging. The music has always been very energetic and fulfilling. The Utah Opera's version of the Marriage of Figaro did not once disappoint in all those things I love about this Mozart opera. We were able to secure great seats for opening night, which is always my favorite. The props and staging was delightful, creative and well-designed for quick changeovers where need. The principals were suburb with the roles of the The Count, Figaro and Susana were all well sung and performed. The comic movements and gestures were also quite well choreographed and lent to the light and comedic tone of this opera. The costuming and interpretation of the role of Basilio was odd.

Utah Opera produces four operas each season, usually in October, January, March and May in a beautiful, recently refurbished opera house. We've been subscribers for many years and performances get better every season. The production of Cosi Fan Tutte, set in the 1920's, which we saw last week was our third and by far the best Cosi. If you're fortunate enough to be in Salt Lake City during one of their productions consider that there are four hotels within a block of the Capital Theater and several fine restaurants within walking distance of each. And if you're staying elsewhere in the city there are also several parking facilities within walking distance.

Capitol Theatre is always such a lovely place to view an opera, though as a plus size woman the chairs are a bit small. The performance was great and we had such a lovely time. Ticket prices were good, though if you buy the cheap seats do it WAY in advance to get better seats. We paid 18 $ and sat pretty close to the stage!
