We love this place! Lots of trails for various abilities. Parking can be a challenge at the trailheads. At the top of the canyon, a walk around Silver Lake is easy, short and pleasant. You can take a trail into the mountains off the trail...More

Highly recommend a trip to the canyon, the drive is very nice. Two recommended hikes. Donut Falls. Spectacular waterfall if you reach the top of it. It's a moderate hike. Kids can make it to the base. Adults can climb some rock to get to...More

Hands down my favorite canyon to be in. I love hiking, snowboarding and riding my motorcycle up this canyon.

We enjoyed visiting and hiking in Big Cottonwood Canyon over Fourth of July weekend 2017. There was still snow on the mountain tops. We enjoyed our drive through very scenic Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Amazing hike, about 4.5 miles up and 4.5 down. We were told 3 miles by a couple that looked like professional hikers. It's NOT! 2/2.5 hours to get up and 1.5 hours back. We're not avid hikers but I would highly recommend to come prepared....More

Not just a winter ski get away. The Spruces Campground is a cool pine tree oasis with crystal clear Big Cottonwood Creek flowing through. We also love attending the Brighton Branch for church on Sundays - the only LDS chapel I know of that has...More

Had some time to kill in the area when I came out for a job interview and this scenic byway blew me away! You could hike for weeks here and still not do the same one. Even without the hikes, you still get the beautiful...More

This is our 2nd time in SLC. Took the drive through the canyon up to Solitude Mountain. Stunning views, lots of narrow switchbacks though, so if you're not comfortable (or don't have a good, stable vehicle) don't attempt the off road part. One of the...More

I like to hike up the canyon. I could spend all summer and not go on the same hike twice, so that is cool.

I agree with the previous posters. We rented a car and drove ourselves. The worst thing about self drive is the driver needs to keep their eyes on the road lots of twists and turns. Drive yourself to a trail head park the... More
