My son and I had the opportunity to go owling with Tim and he was a great guide. Got us right on the birds and it was a lot of fun. Nice to see the flamulated and western screech owls on our trip to Utah!

Myself and my good friend Wayne birded with Tim for three days in Southern Idaho, Nevada and Utah. We had a wonderful time all round. He ensured we were safe from Covid adapting to the masks and social distancing. Most of all we had a a positive experience with lots of laughs and great conversations. The birding was excellent with targets including Cassia Crossbill, Himalayan Snowcock (not easy) , Flammulated Owl all well seen. Tim also gave us lots of advice for our unguided trip in Arizona. He is very knowledgeable on all the birds in the Mountain West. We learned a lot from him especially about Flammulated Owl.

The Ruby Mountains of Nevada and the Albion Mountains of Idaho were the highlights of the trip for me. Tim brought I and two other participants to multiple locations over the four days and we had excellent birds everywhere we stopped in Idaho, Nevada, and Utah. On top of that, the scenery, Tim's sense of humor, and the meals were excellent. I look forward to birding with Tim at some point in the future. I highly recommend him.

My 8-year-old son has become an avid birder and all he wanted for his birthday was to go owling. My husband and I didn't have the slightest idea of how to do that ourselves. I looked on Google and found the Mountain West Birding Company and contacted Tim. He was helpful and knowledgeable in figuring out the scheduling. We met Tim in the mountains near Provo Canyon the first week in August for our adventure. Though he said the owls aren't as active in August as they are in early summer, he was confident we could get a "flammy". We started out the evening by hearing the calls of a Northern Pygmy Owl. Tim was able to call it close to us but the small 6-inch tall owl stayed hidden from us though Tim was able to figure out which tree it was in. We then went looking for Flammulated Owls. Tim played recordings of Flammulated Owl calls to entice them to come out and call out for us. It wasn't long before we heard them call back. Tim was able to identify if the owls were male or female, or juveniles just by their call. He told us that by the late summer only the young male owls that never found a mate are the ones interested in coming out. After hearing several owls, we finally saw one flying between the trees, and on our last spot, Tim found us an owl that stayed in the tree and gave us a nice long look. At the conclusion of our adventure, Tim gave us all Flammulated Owl goody bags with bookmarks and stickers. He made a special one for my son because he knew the trip was for his birthday which made the whole adventure even more special. The whole experience was magical and our son is still on cloud 9 weeks later. He is saving up his birthday money, Christmas money, and chore earnings to be able to go on another trip with Tim soon. We'd highly recommend going on a birding trip with Tim! We can't wait to go on another ourselves.

Extended - Mountain West Most Wanted Tour. With Covid 19 cancelling our other summer birding plans, I contacted Tim to see if he was still running his tours. He indicated his group tours were cancelled but that he would book a private tour of his Mountain West Most Wanted. Utah, Nevada, Idaho with a bonus day to Wyoming - a week of serious birding! Tim knows the birds and where to find them and we saw all the target species. Highlights: Flammulated Owl, Western Screech Owl, Barn Owl, Burrowing Owl, Great Horned Owl, Common Poorwill, Black Swift, Lewis's Woodpecker, Thee-towed Woodpecker, Himalayan Snowcock, MacGillivray's Warbler, Calliope, Black-Chinned, Broad-Tailed and Rufous Hummingbirds, Cassia Crossbill, Gray Vireo, Gray, Willow, Olive-Sided, Cordilleran and Dusky Flycatchers, Juniper Titmouse, Sagebrush Sparrow, Brewer's Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, Chukar Partridge, Gray Partridge, Common Night-hawk, Ferruginous Hawk, Red Necked and Wilson's Phalaropes, Pied, Eared, Clarks and Western Grebes, Long-billed Curlew, Western Willett and more! Tim took Covid 19 precautions seriously. All of the hotels provided were newer, clean - Hampton, Fairfield. Meals were picked-up and taken out for picnic venues. We would be happy to bird with Tim again.
