The trail is well-maintained, and short enough (3/4 mile) for young children to walk on their own. Just be sure to bring water. It's a shared (bike/walk) trail, but I didn't see any evidence of bikes when I was there.

I decided to take a jog down the Heritage Trail and found it quite cool and peaceful. I really like that that is was all paved and seemed very safe. I have now run along both sides of the River. I cant wait until they finish the DT side of the river where the Otis Redding statue is. The only... More

We had the perfect day and we planned on just walking over to one of the mounds. And then there was another one not that far away, and the bridge looked interesting, and ... and... before we actually realized it we were well along the path and not overly tired so we decided how far we wanted to go and... We wanted to look at the Otis Redding statue in Gateway Park. Couldn't even get close as there were many suspect and undesirable looking drunks all around the access point on a Sunday afternoon. We did not feel safe and promptly left.
