Great hiking spot
Jul 2021
One of the nicest state parks for hiking. Hikes range from easy to more difficult and all trails are well maintained. Great visitor center with helpful staff. A good park for a variety of bird species too. Only tent camping in the park.

A favorite park
Apr 2021 • Family
Four of us camped in the main campground for the weekend and loved every minute. The camping spots were spacious, and each provided a grill, fire ring, and picnic table. Hiking trails are well maintained and the hikes were beautiful—most of ours had water views almost the entire time. The bath house was clean and attractive, and rangers clean it twice daily. The rangers are friendly and helpful. There is a little book hut which we enjoyed, and although we weren’t traveling with young children, my kids would have loved it. There are also nice playgrounds, and the streams offered lots of places which kids would love to play in. Our fellow campers observed the 10pm quiet time, which we appreciated. We can’t wait to go back!

Two falls to visit here and easy walking. This park is easy to find and get around. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys hiking.

Debord Falls
Nov 2019
Nice hidden gem of a state park. Hiked up the fairly rocky but wide trail to Debord Falls. Nice little falls, stairs down to the creek for a better view are a little tricky and the handrail could use some reinforcement, but still doable. Viewing deck gives a nice angle of the falls, for those not inclined to venture down to the creek. About a 100 foot elevation change from trailhead to the falls, with about 60 of that in the last 1/10th of a mile. Had a couple of nice photos to post but trip advisor would not allow to be uploaded due to file size.

Heritage Festival
Oct 2019 • Couples
Went out Saturday to the Heritage Festival at Frozen Head State Park. Yes, it was chilly even around noon time. The park was good but the Festival was not as good or big like previous years.

Almost undiscovered. Worth a trip. Get there before 4:00 if you want to pick up firewood at the ranger station.

We did an overnight at the Flat Fork campground. These are primitive sites (no utilities at all). However, a nice, clean bathhouse is provided. Excellent paved road and parking pads. Nice picnic area, barbeque and fire ring for each site. Tent sites appeared to have excellent drainage. Very clean overall. Most of the sites were occcupied by tent campers. There were a couple of RVs. We camp in a Class B, and it fit in very well. We did not run our generator and I do not think it would be appropriate at any time in this very quiet place. There are outlets in the bath house if you want to brew a pot of coffee. Very shaded. Very quiet. Verizon had 1 bar. AT&T had nothing. There were a lot of kids playing noisily on a huge rock near the bath house, but they stopped around dusk. That was the only noise, which can be avoided by choosing a site away from the bath house. Excllent hiking and trail running, though the runs have a lot of climbing. The Flat Cove camp site is the start of the Barkley Marathons. The ranger station closes at 4:00. However, the ranger came through the campground several times during the evening to make sure everyone was at peace.

The Park is well maintained. Great place for a senior citizen to take a little hike without taking your life into your hands.

Fine walking in the woods
Aug 2019 • Couples
The primary walking trail in this Tennessee state park is uphill alongside a large creek which flows nearby. The trail is wooded all the way and is well shaded in summertime. It is great for getting exercise because of the incline. The park is a one hour drive from Knoxville and located in scenic Appalachian mountain country.

I actually live near to this beautiful gem. I love taking my little girl to the small swimming hole near the visitor center. Always alot of butterflies, fish, deer, and other random wild life. Great place to hike, camp, or just spend a day exploring nature.
