We finally did this tour on the weekend after usually driving through Murchison and only stopping for a cuppa. We (1 Mum, 1 10 year old son, 2 grandparents) LOVED the trip from start to finish. Steve was fantastic and a delight to be taken by. The bush we walked through was the nicest we've seen anywhere in NZ and... More

A really beautiful hike leads you to the natural gas seep which causes flames to burn in the middle of the forest. Great opportunities along the one hour walk to see deer and a multitude of birds. The red beech trees are a favourite place for both honey bees and wasps to feast on the honeydew caused by a fungus.... More

Thanks for your feedback and the great photos! Glad you enjoyed it. The tour is always changing - right now the bush is wet, the stream running quite high, and the flames themselves have reorganised themselves. Cheers, Elizabeth and Steve. More

A nice rural ride in a landcover, a great bush walk, a friendly knowledgeable guide, and a unique little spot at the end of it - literally can't go wrong!

We enjoyed a lovely informative walk through mossy wonderland beech forest, spotting wild deer in the clearing and cheeky robins on the trail. Then we arrived at the amazing flames. What a bonus and immediately it seemed, we had a welcome cup of tea followed by freshly cooked pikelets served with the very special honey collected from the beech trees.... More

Hi Jo B and T So pleased you enjoyed your visit. Hope the rest of your holiday went well. I really did enjoy taking you to the Flames and was there again on Friday. I keep being surprised by how much they move about. The cheeky Robin paid us another visit. We caught up with A today which was very... More

The bush we walked through was a lovely and diverse example of native New Zealand. It was fun to get to know a few other tourists and locals in this easygoing manner, learn about the wildlife and local area, and cooking pancakes on a natural gas fire was awesome. The honey was good too. We booked this trip last minute... More

The Natural Flames Experience is an amazing way to enjoy beautiful unspoilt New Zealand bush. Our guide Steve was informative and entertaining during the drive and walk to these fascinating flames, and he's also a dab hand at cooking pancakes and brewing tea! This experience is up there in our top ten of things to do in New Zealand. It... More

We made a last minute booking based on a recommendation and Elizabeth kindly put us on the tour the following day. What a great decision. We had a fabulous afternoon enjoying a very scenic walk through the bush and finding this natural event. Steve was great telling us all about the local fauna and turning chef to supply a huge... We enjoyed this trip so much. Other reviewers have covered the beautiful bushwalking, the pancake snack (which turned into a lunch, we were served so many) and very special experience of seeing the natural flames. I will cover a more practical side. We are both in our sixties and are not trampers by any stretch of the imagination so we... More

A fantastic day with our guide Steve who was very knowledgeable about everything in the area, especially the woods that we walked through. The flames are amazing and the tea and pancakes yummy (well done Elizabeth for getting the mixture right ;-) ). We'd recommend this trip to anyone in the Murchison area.

Thanks. It's good to get out into the bush and also to have to put a bit of effort into getting to the flames. Being hungry makes the pancakes taste yummier! More
