We discovered Of Hand & Heart by accident, saw the sign, followed the yellow brick road and there was this hidden gem. So much quality artwork of textile, ceramic, paint and sculpture. It wasn't a matter of finding something I liked, more a case of what to choose from such a wonderful collection. If you're in Warkworth, well worth a visit.

Also the owner gave us the history on a few pieces of interest and amazing that he created so many items himself. Everything from whimsical, colourful, textural. Something for everyone.

The most amazing array of top class NZ art and craft I've seen. If I had $1,000.00 to spend there, it wouldn't be enough for everything I'd like. The shop is off the street behind Pete & Mary's cafe, in case you can't work out where It is.

So thrilled to have found it again....some time ago was told owner had to move out of his well established location and hadnt found a new one. After several visits to Warkworth wondering where it was - we finally stumbled across a 'gallery' sign directing us down a pathway beside some shops (couldnt the remember the name) so went to investigate. Bingo!!!...!! One of the best little galleries north of Auckland. Owner is an artist and knows the subject well. Personally choses his exhibitors. Excellent quality and range of art styles and objects in this charming little gallery tucked down an alley. Follow the yellow brick road path..warkworth central. We always find something we have to take home.

I stopped at Warkworth for coffee while traveling, randomly noticed yellow brick road painted on the narrow lane, I followed the road and found Rick’s gallery, stoneware there are so eye fascinating, and soon I felt these art work are even mind fascinating. Love the stoneware Rick did, the most beautiful pieces should not look like they are man made, but made by nature, Rick’s work is like this, bring harmony and internal peace. After a lovely chatting with Rick about Eastern Asian culture ,wax resist technique, and end of the shopping, Rick told me the yellow brick road is inspired from The Wizard of OZ. Such a magic experience, suddenly I feel like back to reality, it was fairy led me to Rick’s shop which is Of hand and heart !

We make yearly purchases from Of Hand and Heart where Rick carefully packs and sends stunning treasures to our home in Los Angeles. Always a pleasure to work with him and always a thrill to open a package from this extraordinary NZ gallery!

Off the beaten track, follow the yellow brick road to a truly lovely gallery full of unique art pieces- ceramics, jewellery, paintings...from amazing Kiwi artists. Rickmwas there the day I bought a beautiful ceramic fantail which was lovingly wrapped for overseas travel. Need more places and people like this.
Will be back on n my next visit to NZ.

I found this wonderful gallery by accident as like a loony I had not logged on to Trip Advisor. I found some earrings at a glass gallery and had put them on hold but unfortunately could not remember the name of the gallery. After searching I found of Hand and Heart and thinking it was here where I had put the earrings on hold I rang them. A lovely American guy (Rick) answered and was kind enough to take my number and to then nip across the road and ask the glass gallery owners to ring me. Problem solved and earrings purchased. When I was in Warkworth the next day I went in to see of Hand & Heart and to thank Rick for his kindness. What a find. All sorts of goodies from wonderful pottery to silk dresses. I bought a very reasonably priced pottery dog looking longingly at a pottery bone which reminded me so much of my Kelpie, Gus that I just had to have him. Rick packaged the dog up very securely in such a way that I was able to take him on the plane as hand luggage. The girls operating the x-ray machine at the airport all oohed and ached when they saw what was in the box. This is a great place to buy a special gift for someone you love or like I did, just for yourself. Do yourself a favour and check this place out.

In a little lane behind a cafe called Ginger in Queen Street, this is a marvellous art outlet. One of those serious galleries where the longer you look the more you see.
Remarkable ceramics from some of the finest workers in the country. Also fine jewellery and hangable art.
Beautifully chosen and with a knowledgable and welcoming owner.
You should find this place to get serious reminders of a New Zealand visit or for presents for this you truely love.
