You can get to the top of Mount Paku up a fairly steep but shortish path in about 15 minutes if you park in Paku drive and follow the signs. As it was a sunny day had fantastic views from the top. Great for photos!
Nice vista overlooking most the surrounding areas. Had a number of informational plagues along the pretty hard path up to the top. There's parking below that is just off the road up. If you have extra driver, you can do a drop off at 2...More
I stopped by this location (as it was my last stop while on a full day tour with Kiwi Day Trips), and after a short hike up this old volcanic plug, the scenes are REALLY really fantastic!

The climb is worth the effort with great views from the top of the volcanic cone. You can walk from the bottom or drive most of the way up and then it is about a 15 minute walk to the top. There is a small...More
This is a short easy climb up stairs and a few rocks that gives you a fantastic view of the entire beautiful area. I was surprised how good it was, since you are in the middle of a neighborhood. Nice plaques along the way mark...More

The steep, often narrow climb is well worth the effort for stunning views of Tairua township, the harbour, the coastline and the mountains inland. You can begin the walk from the waterside but it's steep and through houses etc. Better to park at the reserve...More

You can drive up to the car park and it is about 10 minutes walking to get to the top up quite steep stairs, 20 minutes round trip back to your car, OR if you want an extended walk you can walk from Tairua township itself so it could be an hour or more for a round trip depending how many stops and detours you make along the way.
I hope this helps
