After walking around the Mangere Town Centre, we saw this interesting building across the parking lot from McDonalds and decided to investigate. The building turned out to be the Mangere Arts Centre. We went inside and saw that there was a café just to the left of the entrance. We were a little chilly from the winter temperatures outside and decided to get a cup of coffee. There were also some meat pies and pastries and we got some of those. The meat pie was ok but the cinnamon roll type pastry that I had was delicious and with my flat white on the side, perfect winter weather treat. The café was clean and a nice open space. It was not crowded at this time in the afternoon and we found a table right away after ordering at the counter.
What I remember most is the nice young Maori lady that was the cashier, she was very friendly and when we asked her is there any good restaurant around to get dinner, she made a frown and shook her head no. We were like, well thanks, that is all we need to know, and walk away chuckling to ourselves.
We decided to go to Westfield mall and catch a movie instead so we did not explore the Arts Centre more, but we did enjoy our experience at the café there. A rest with a cup of coffee is nice anywhere.

Always good to see local and national exhibitions that are free and accessible to schools, groups, individuals etc. I especially enjoy seeing Pasifika and Maori exhibitions with indigenous voices, experiences and perspectives shared.

Always good vibes when i go to this place. Thoroughly enjoyed open mic night and plan to go to more. The people are friendly and grateful that they bring more life to the community and south auckland in general. It's such an awesome place and believe they should have more places like this around south auckland with more events like they have

Dropped by specifically to see John Bevan-Ford's exhibition and well worth the trip; 2 other revered artists also exhibiting.
I am told this is the place to view artworks by contemporary and traditional Maori and Pacific Island artists and I wasn't disappointed. On entering - apart from the friendly staff - the first thing I saw was a beautifully woven [flax and tapa?] female garment.
The building itself is a work of art - unusually shaped, multi-coloured and built for multi-purposes - I would love to understand what influenced the architect...
I highly recommend the kai at the onsite café - all freshly made. I tried the pie with silverside, spinach[?] leaves in a coconut cream sauce. Both the lamb and 'boil up' pies had sold out. I also bought a bag of manioke crisps and a freshly made orange, mango and pineapple drink, which I describe as "treats from heaven" and, hours later, I'm still savoring the tastes and the visual delights of the exhibition.

Clear with instructions when working behind the scenes, very beautiful venue in general. Very pretty venue to show off to family and friends when they are visiting. Awesome place to represent NZ community and bringing their artwork to the public.

I have been to many shows here and actually put on three shows here. It's a diverse culture and it has a multitude of interesting and very talented people on staff and on the stage. This theatre has featured both mainstream and fringe theatre which is a great element for emerging talent and general audiences in south auckland. The foyer itself is a little cold with the concrete flooring and starkness. Maybe they need more flora around and more comfy seating, mats possibly? The decor especially the artwork is excellent, they might need more though. I feel the art gallery has some excellent talent there as well. They always start on time and operate professionally. If you're white, don't be a chicken, and get along to see some great shows. You'll be surprised and happy to you went.

another of Mangere's hidden gem ... get to see the best perfomances and art in a good building; the seating in the theatre is a bit rattly but thats not a hindrance
