I visited Coromandel Peninsula, where Cathedral Cove is located in July. Winters in the southern hemisphere corresponds to summers in the northern hemisphere. The winters in NZ are very mild, comparable to a nice spring day in North America. Even the water is warmer than...More

It said 45 mins when we started the hike and it did take about that much time. The path is made well but it does go uphill and downhill several times so hiking shoes are recommended but any walking shoes should be fine. There are...More

Cathedral Cove is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena I have seen. Truly beautiful, awesome, and great to visit. The walk is uncovered, some uphill and downhill, but it is asphalted and suitable for people with mobility issues, though there are 150 stairs at...More

It was a slick hike to the cove, but I was able to do it in my flip flops (didn't want to get sand in my sneakers). You come to a cute secluded beach with some small cave formations, a little waterfall and public toilet...More

Top walk despite crowds. It took 35 minutes and was a beautiful beach and well worthwhile. Swimming was good despite winter too. Great Marine reserve so excellent snorkel despite short due to cold sea

Its not a short walk - approx 45mins each way but well worth it...great vistas on the way outbound through the mist/fog/drizzle/rain (pack a rain coat or umbrella) because even if it isn't raining when you leave the parking lot - it may well be...More

Had the perfect sunny day for a visit to Cathedral Cove. If you are in the area it is a must do. Stunningly beautiful. Being winter it was relatively quiet. I can imagine in summer it would be quite crowded. It is an easy paved...More

last time we came here was 25 years ago, and so we have seen many improvements. Places like this make you realise how much effort has gone into presentation and easy access for tourists and locals alike. The native planting going on along the track which...More

As a NZer I had no idea that such a beautiful spot was so easy to get to. However, the tourists sure know and are taking full advantage of the well maintained tracks. So great to see people out and about in winter! I read...More

Hi. From the Hahei carpark it's about 45 minute walk one way. Alternatively you can park closer to the start of the walk. Some locals charge $10 to park on their property. From there it's a 30 minute walk. Enjoy!

We rented a car and drove to all our destinations. We are used to going it on our own. But there are shuttles that will take you. Just ask your concierge desk.
