The kayak tour with snorkeling was a great experience for our family! Our group(3 adults, 3 teenagers) had limited background with kayaks and were able to learn and navigate effectively. Our guide, Matty, was able to locate turtles as soon as we paddled to our anchor spot. Matty provided hands on opportunities with sea urchins and starfish. He provided a wealth of information about the reef in addition to snorkeling tips/tricks. He was focused on everyone being comfortable in the water and having fun. We took an underwater camera and were able to capture amazing videos of our family swimming with the turtles! Would recommend this experience for families with children 12 or older.

Not sure where to begin here. There was one guide for about 14 or 16 kayakers. This felt a little dangerous particularly because there were 4 or 5 kids on the tour under age 12 and kayaking experience was minimal for the group. We kayaked out a bit from the hotel and anchored. Our guide yelled at a Mom and son who were drifting off a bit (after minimal instruction on how to actually maneuver a kayak). The guide's attitude was sour and snappy for the rest of the trip. After anchoring, I did not see the guide for the next 30 minutes. I have no idea where he swam off to. I was with my ten year old daughter trying to figure out what exactly to do. It was a little choppy and very murky. We did not see many fish and saw no turtles. Thank goodness we had life jackets. I would not do this again solely because the ratio felt dangerous/oversold and the guide's attitude did not make it a positive experience. Several hundred dollars for a bit of a panic attack with no supervision. Do not recommend.

My son and I decided to do the kayak and snorkeling tour @ Grand Wailea in Maui. I would never recommend it. Matt, our “guide”, was late to start and finished 20 minutes early. He gave a 2 second introduction on how to maneuver a kayak. We have snorkeled all over the world but was our first time on a kayak and I was a bit nervous. He ended up yelling at my son and I l because we drifted off a little bit, making a ridiculous scene and basically ruining the entire experience. We went off snorkeling and no thanks to him found some fish. He didn’t explain anything that was there. By pure good luck- a sea turtle popped its head out of the water and we were able to see it. Which was amazing. Waste of money and terrible guide.

Aqualani is the contractor providing the pool hut services at the Westin Ocean Resorts (Nanea, Westin Ocean Villa's North and South) on Ka'anapali Beach. Let me first say we first experienced their service at two of these resorts in August 2021 during a two week stay. During that stay we were very unhappy with the quality of their service and staff. We own at these two resorts and have never had an issue until now. We provided constructive criticism to the Resort Recreation Manager, Glenn, and he addressed while we were there, but there was not much they could do quickly to resolve the problems. One recommendation we made while there in August was to reserve pool chairs for handicapped guests. We had experienced this service at the Westin Lagunamar in Cancun, Mexico, and felt it provided that extra special touch. My husband is handicapped, but not in a wheelchair. It takes him longer to get ready to head to the pool in the mornings longer than most people. Now to our 3-week stay at the Westin Nanea beginning March 12, 2022. The Aqualani Manager, Donald, at the Nanea location had picked out two pool chairs to mark with a handicapped placard. He placed them on two chairs near the lift to get into the hot tub and where they would be in the sun all day. While the effort was admirable, he missed the mark. I feel he needs to attend a class on ADA and what the different handicaps can be. There are several Palapas (thatched roof umbrellas) around the pool. Why not reserve pool chairs for handicapped persons under a couple of Palapa's. I brought it up, but it was not changed. So, I found myself at the pool at 4:30 a.m. every morning to get a pair of pool chairs under a Palapa in a nice location around the pool. I am on vacation and should not have to get up at 4:30 a.m. HST to go down to the pool by myself to get two chairs under a Palapa. In all fairness, Aqualani does not start their shift until 8:00 a.m. They do have a Super Star employee at Nanea. His name is Artur. This young man is a gem. He provided EXCELLENT customer service each and every day he was there. He put the customer first and upheld the rules. More than I can say for Donald or the fill-in manager, Matthias. Donald nor Matthias don't put the customer first nor are they very hands-on. As a matter of fact, Matthias filled in for the pool manager at the Westin North location 4 days while we stayed there and was never visible. At least Donald provides some supervision and guidance to his staff. It seemed Matthias was only there to open and close things. One time during our stay at Nanea I approached Matthias to ask him a question. I politely asked him if I could talk to him at which he told me, "I am busy right now and cannot talk to you." I stayed at the spot I was in when I approached him that entire day and he never came back to see me. The second two weeks of our stay we were at the Westin Ka'anapali Resort Villas North. The manager, Jeff, and his staff did an amazing job. They have customer service dialed in like Artur at Nanea. Jeff takes great pride in getting to know the guests and treating his staff with kindness and respect. They seem to really enjoy their jobs when he is there. They provided the level and quality of service we are accustomed to at these resorts. We did not use any of their tour or snorkeling trip services so I cannot give you a review of these.

I dove with Black Rock Watersports, which this firm manages, along with various concessions at the Sheraton. Our dive master, Jose, was spectacular, handling six divers on a fairly simple if a bit tricky shore dive alongside Black Rock. The surge and undertow was ripping but Jose got us all out and back safely and in the process, showed us the various and interesting life forms living on the reef. All this against the backdrop of whale song! The rental equipment was maintained very well and I had full confidence in the gear I was using.
