Overview
Come experience the ocean at your own pace in Maui's only clear bottom kayaks. Our kayaks are great for all ages and skill levels. The trickiest part of kayaking in the ocean is launching and landing the kayak. We carry the boat to the water for you and assist with getting past the surf.

The guys who run these trips were awesome. They gave us good advice and were very friendly and helpful. Go early! About 9 AM the tour boats arrive and with them crowds. You really can see through the bottom of the kayak!

I recommend the glass bottom, tandem kayak experience with some caveats. We put in at Makena Bay. Bathrooms and fresh water shower are available in the park within walking distance of where you put in. The company is great. The guys were attentive and helpful. That being said, we spent the first hour going out too far and filling our kayak with sea water. We made our way back and the guys were right there to help us empty the kayak and get back out. But I have a few suggestions for making the experience ideal: 1) Stay close to shore. Do not go out too far because the water is too deep and you can't see anything through the glass. Also, these kayaks are not ideal for open water. They retain water easily (unlike flat bottom kayaks or paddle boards). They fill up with even small open water waves. You are supplied with a pump but this is only marginally effective, especially if your party has large bodies. 2) Ask specifically to be pointed towards viewable corals and the turtle town. The whole point of a glass bottom is to observe sea life. So only go where you can see stuff underwater. In water deeper than 20-30 feet, you will see nothing. If you want to chase whales or brave white caps, these are the wrong vehicles. 3) Start early in the morning. Glass bottoms depend on good visibility in the water. This is best earlier when the wind is at a low ebb. So take the earliest spot they have. If you can't make that work, then hang tight for my last suggestion. 4) Consider having at least one member of your party bring snorkel gear. We went at 9 am and the water was already a bit cloudy because of the wind. In addition, although you can see through the bottom of the kayaks, your viewing area is small. So if you are lucky enough to find a turtle, you will have a hard time tracking it unless it stays on the surface, that is, UNLESS you have a spotter in the water. I got out of my kayak and put on the gear and was able to spot several turtles for my family. With me on the water, I could tell them where to position their kayaks in order to see the turtles through the glass.

Whoa!!! What a great day with Clear Kayaks! Sean and Ryan were great to work with and so helpful in explaining where to go to see great views and still be safe. We saw turtles! The clear bottoms made it really easy to view under the water!

They show you exactly where to go to see the most on your trip! Make sure to take motion sickness medication, even if you don’t usually get sea sick. Shawn and Ryan are great!
