Palau'ue Beach used to be a hidden treasure. The locals called it White Rock for the pieces of coral that washed up on the beautiful sand. The haoles knew it as The Maui Meadows Beach as those people used it for getaways. Then it got Revealed.

An aggressive guidebook author posted Palau'ea as a go-to spot for mainland visitors. The horde descended and remains today. Bad politics entered in and houses are being built where none should go. This was a canoe pull-out not a place for hale.

But do we still go there? The answer is "Yes". The pocket beach is still there as is the snorkeling. Turn your back on the crowd and look out at the sea. We're just one tsunami away from cleansing.

This is the beach for you if you are interested in "living the dream"...hot, hot sand, clear green-blue water, turtles casually swimming by, great boogie boarding/paddle surfing -especially in the summer, a nice mix of locals and vacationers casually interacting, children building castles (but not too many kids!). For those visiting in July & August, as we do- morning is best as the wind picks up in the early afternoon and the surf break is hard (time for a siesta). It calms down again around 4:00 when the water sparkles like diamonds. We constantly remind our 9 year old son that the ocean is a mighty force and to be respected. There are no life guards on this beach and we've had one accident here and have also seen many accidents on other beaches. We keep a careful eye on our son at all times. Probably best of all is sunset-I will attach some photos as I am unable to accurately express the magnificent colors that comprise a Maui sunset. This beach is my tiny bit of heaven on earth.

We were married on the north end of this mostly locals beach at sunset. It wasn't crowded, and we had that part of the beach to ourselves. The lava rock and greenery in the background made for gorgeous pictures and a beautiful video!!

We came here twice during our stay on Maui. We loved the beach because it was less crowded compared to some of the mainstream beaches. We watched the sun set at the beach which was quite a happening since we had 3 weddings, one engagement and multiple family picture shoots happening next to us. Still worth the visit

We got married on this beach. It has beautiful sand with a great view of the volcano as your backdrop. There is also a rocky area which is beautiful for pictures. A large Green Sea Turtle swam by right after our ceremony!

Held our daughter's wedding on this beautiful beach just down the road from the Fairmont Kea Lani. Accessed through the trees between multi-million dollar ocean front homes, this place was perfect.

We renewed our vows on this beach. It offered beautiful photo opportunities. The sand is perfect and there is just the right amount of greenery and lava rocks.

Down past Wailea on Makena Road is a pretty beach called Palau'ea Beach (or White Rock Beach). This is an average sized beach that has a beautiful view of the ocean with 2 high rocky outcrops at either end. The water is clear and safe enough for kids and adults. It's a fairly quiet beach with free parking on the side of the road. A lot of wedding and vow renewals happen on this beach at sunset (including my own !!!). Such a pretty, picturesque beach. It's beautiful here and just another reminder of what Hawaii is all about.

We got married at sunrise, had the beach to ourselves. It was perfect. Lovely spot for photos. Soft sand, rocky outcropping, lush vegetation, volcanic views nearby.

We love this beach. Off the beaten track, quiet and rather secluded.
We got married here at sunset. Nobody around at all but us!! We came back several more times during our stay as it became our fav.

Headed back in a month! Can’t wait to snorkel with the turtles!!
