This surf is not for the faint of heart! Only go in this ocean if you are an experienced swimmer. I would not recommend for children. The waves are huge. It's breathtakingly beautiful however. Great for photos.

This is a very nice local beach with life guard coverage as well as facilities. A good family safe beach but has some strong heavy surf. A bit of a walk from the "large beach but offers some shade.

We visited this beach on August 15, 2017. It is very beautiful! It is huge and the water is a beautiful blue and the sand is amazing. It was mesmerizing to water the huge waves crash on shore. The downfalls are that you have to...More

So beautiful, untouched by commercialism. The sand is white and clean close to the water. A great place to spend a quiet family time communing wit nature at its most beautiful.

Great place to snorkel but get here early. You can always park further away and walk down/up to Makena Landing. It's a nice spot but it can get overcrowded.

Big beach (Big Makena) the surf comes into the beach perfectly suited for body surfing or boogie boarding. It is a walk to the beach on a well used path. Little Makena is a bit more of a hire over the bluff. At little Makena,...More

My family and I love to boogie board, and this was the best location for that activity. We love waves that are on the larger side of the scale to get a better ride so this wouldn't be a beginner location in my opinion. However...More

Makena Beach is a wonderful spot for snorkeling. This was only my second time snorkeling, but I absolutely loved it. The waves at Makena are intense, but once you get past them, it is lovely, clear water. As soon as I put my snorkeled-face in...More

Disappointing......Beautiful but too dangerous. This beach was recommended by a family member who said 'best beach on Maui' but went in October. The waves were extremely rough. The lifeguards were announcing every 30 minutes not to go in unless you are familiar with beach. I...More

Spent a couple of hours at this beach enjoying the scenery but the lifeguard came over the loud speaker basically saying it wasn't safe to swim or body board. It was quite hot so not going in the water wasn't an option for us.

Sorry for my late response, but I didn't see this until now. Makena Beach is a nice spot but there are several spots more appropriate for a wedding. My favorite would be Secret Beach, which is just a bit south of Makena... More
