Spent a couple of hours at this beach enjoying the scenery but the lifeguard came over the loud speaker basically saying it wasn't safe to swim or body board. It was quite hot so not going in the water wasn't an option for us.

Big Beach is by far the best beach! Very long and wide open, free from tourists unlike Wailea beach. You can relax and enjoy the beauty of Maui here in a romantic setting. Highly recommend!

This beach was very nice with the clearest water we saw on Maui. It was a little bit too intense to snorkel on the day we went though. It was suggested to climb the little path to the north over to Little Beach, which is...More

Nice beach but the wave was too choppy for my young kids. I like the nice walked from the car to the beach. Nice sandy beach.

Great beach! Had a great time snorkeling with the turtles. The beach wasn't too crowded. The water had nice sandy spots and reefy spots to accommodate our party's varying needs and wants. Beautiful photo opps on the rocks with trees too!

One of the prettiest beaches I've been to, ever! So beautiful! Waves can (and did while we were there) hit the shoreline very hard and lifeguards gave their obligatory speech about once an hour that it was unsafe to boogie board where the waves crash....More

Makena has a couple different beaches the one to be careful of is called "big beach" if you have younger children or are not a strong swimmer I would not attempt to go into the water. It has an extremely strong current and very strong...More

One of my favorite beaches on Maui. The waves were huge and they broke very close to shore so watch keep a close eye on your kids. Lots of scenic views towards the right hand side when you enter Big Beach.

A bit of a drive, and a walk, out past the hotels and condos in Kihei but worth the views. Parking is available.

Beautiful beach, very long, steep shore, large waves, strong currents. Great if you want to boogie board but strong waves so caution. No rentals, easy parking, portal potty but no showers on south end. Trees for shade which was great.

Sorry for my late response, but I didn't see this until now. Makena Beach is a nice spot but there are several spots more appropriate for a wedding. My favorite would be Secret Beach, which is just a bit south of Makena... More
