About
World of Greenland is a Greenlandic company with deep roots in Ilulissat tourism. We are one of the few operators that are open all year. We have a large selection of exciting excursions in the Disco Bay area and we own Glacier Lodge Eqi, Ilimanaq Lodge, Igloo Lodge and Ilulissat Hostel. Our excursion catalog contains, among other Icefiord sightseeing, whale watching, helicopter flights and cultural walks and hikes of more challenging character. Our lodges are founded on sustainable tourism, where we use local labor and green energy. Our store in Ilulissat serves as information center for tourists, and includes the sale of souvenirs and various other products for tourists and locals. World of Greenland is a commercial company that annually reinvests profits in new initiatives that help to market Greenland as a sustainable and exciting travel destination. We are looking forward to welcoming you in Ilulissat!

WOG was very responsive and communicative. Their website is full of information and well laid out to find activities when in Ilulissat and Ilimanaq. The only modest beef I had was that pick up and drop off where sometimes not entirely clear. Ferries and activities with boats depart from many different parts of the town, so I recommend being crystal clear where you need to go and when/where you are being picked up and dropped off. Also, times are not strictly adhered to. Almost everything was a little delayed or late. The reality is that it never mattered, but those used to thing s running on time may need to relax a little.

Got nice and close in this veteran boat with 30 or so passengers. Not laid out as viewing boats I am used to, say for whale watching. No life saving buoys that I could see on deck. Brief safety statement telling under the seats were clothes to put on in an emergency, and that was that. I guess every country is different. And there were lots of boats around if there was an emergency, it is just that I am used to dive boats, whale watching boats and cruise ships taking it a bit more seriously. The chap I went out with the day before had me wearing the emergency gear the whole trip and it was fine and warm and he was wearing it too.

Dear MarkC8888,
Thank you for your constructive review.
We aim to deliver the highest level of safety on our boat tours and tours in general. Therefore I am sorry to hear abouth this situation where you didn't receive any information about the life rafts that are always onboard.
We only corporate with local, but very professional boat operators in order to keep the standard high. In any case, the crew onboard are always happy to answer any question our guests might have.

We had two great trips with World of Greenland. One with dog sled (4 hours) and one on snowmobile (3 hours). Both in Ilulissat. Both trips were great. The view from both routes was magnificent and the activities were fun. Everything around the trips was excellent as well. We got picked up at our hotel at Hotel Arctic. Thanks for a memorable time.

This is a slightly long one but hopefully helps.
Greenland was one of the most memorable trips and very highly recommended. The company World Of Greenland (WOG) brand can be seen almost everywhere and it was the first I saw when checking in army hotel. The field staff are brilliant and I give them a a five star rating, however, the company gets only two stars because of the management. I experienced some problems and wanted to speak to somebody but was told that the manager cannot spend a few minutes to discuss this at the office (in fact I walked all the way just to speak to someone). I then sent the following email:
"Dear K*******,
I am writing to share my feedback regarding the two last trips.
The first to Ilimanaq was delayed heavily due to the captain not being experienced enough to navigate through the weather. We waited until another was found and he made it though the same conditions but we lost a few hours. This resulted in me rushing through dinner at Koks which not enjoyable.
The second was the city tour that was conducted in both Danish and English for a large group. The guide focused on Danish so little time was spent on English which meant we stood for more than half the time doing nothing but rushing because two accounts had to be delivered (Danish was more comprehensive and longer than English). This was no fault of the guide.
This is my first time in Greenland and I spent almost DKK11,000 with World of Greenland which is a significant investment. I am now concerned that the future trips will similarly be off the mark and am now considering cancelling them.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you."
Several days have passed and I've returned home. So far no response which is surprising and disappointing, especially considering the amount paid (1,500 EUR worth of excursions).
My recommendation is to rush and give others a go as the WOG outsources most to Greenlanders anyway and you'll be helping the local economy and people. There are many to choose from and quite pleasant experienced.

Where did all that promise go?
Northern Lights tour
According to the trip description, we had to go up the piste and a bit away from the city!
Hear stories and tell tales to a nice fire so we could keep warm!
What actually happened was that we were picked up 8 people at a time in a mini bus
The rest then had to wait, and those who were on the first bus then had to wait for us to be full! Good thing you were well dressed!
Then we went together as a group for a short walk up to a bench and it all took place close to the Icefjord visitor center building!
There was a short little story about the Northern Lights and one about a legend / superstition!
Then we could wait and wait and wait
However, it must be said that there were hot drinks for those who wanted them... we were aware that there were no toilets... so we left!
This is NOT about the fact that we didn't see (maybe for a few seconds) the northern lights! It is simply about the fact that the trip did not live up to the trip description that had been sent to us!
It's about a lack of information and that in any case we felt completely laughed at that from the organiser's side, it doesn't matter that it's actually very cold to wait and that it's "shit" it doesn't matter that we've actually paid for such a trip!
Especially when you don't get any information about what and how it will all take place!
Where did the machine go?
The next day we actually saw it, they were getting ready to make it a tour!!! So it actually existed!
Where did all the pleasant stories go to fill the waiting time until the Northern Lights (maybe) appeared?
Where was the cozy fire place?
We feel totally totally and utterly disappointed!!!!!

World of Greenland provided outstanding service and logistical arrangements for all of our tours. I highly - and without reservation recommend World of Greenland when you visit Ilulissat. My partner and I especially appreciated that safety was a priority on all tours.

We booked several tours through the Guide to Greenland website. It turned out that two of them - an iceberg cruise and Koks dinner- were handled by World of Greenland. The tours were very good and well organized.
We had a wide variety of questions about the area when we arrived. The woman at the desk answered all of our questions and was very helpful.
They sell some high-end souvenirs and also have free coffee.
We were very impressed with both the tours and their office.

We took several tours with these folks between July 26 and 29, 2019. Here are the common characteristic among all tours. 1. The guides are always grumpy, disinterested, and lack knowledge. The are likely underpaid. 2. The company is super-greedy to take your money. If you book in advance, you agree to terms that they can change tour date/time for *ANY* reason and they never give any refund. 3. They will pack-up their tours to the extreme, ruining experiences for everyone. 4. They will change schedules for "operational" reasons (seemingly, to accommodate large tour groups) and you cannot do anything because of #2 above. So expect to be available to take their tour 24X7 or book with another company. 5. Per our experience, the company operations are like low-end mass production, but it charges top-end price.
OVER-NIGHT EQI TRIP. We took this. There was a "guide" on boat whose only job was to announce that lunch is served. If you are a vegetarian/vegan, you *WILL* go hungry. The boat (capacity 58) is full to the max, dirty, and feel over-crowded. We found some previous traveler(s) had stuffed soiled paper towels in air vents. We took several trips over 3 days on this boat and they did not clean them.
THE EQI Lodge. The lodge is unique, but foods are in short supply. They announce that if you come late, the food may not be there for you. Only comfort huts have power outlets. So there is a mad rush among tourists to "capture" the outlets in the restaurants in the morning to charge devices, ruining everyone's experience. The lodge manager said that all staff live on site in a hut that "frankly speaking is creepy". Overall, it is more pathetic than unique.
HIKING AT EQI LODGE. We took two: hike to delta (extra $), hike to moraine (included). The guides for there two hikes were very good. Remember hiking bug/insect nets. There are hundreds of thousands of bugs.
FROM EQI TO ILULISSAT. The same dirty boat as mentioned above.
KANGIA COASTLINE HIKE. Disinterested guides (presumably because it was a Sunday) who forgot to bring cups for coffee but apparently brought coffee. So no coffee offered. Included lunch is of pathetic quality.
ICEBERG SIGHTSEEING. That old dirty boat, once again. If you do the Eqi trip, then doing is wasting your money. Our guide was seriously disinterested, lacked knowledge and energy. The trip was rescheduled for "operational reasons" (sorry no refund!), apparently to accommodate a large group of tourists who did not speak/understand English, lacked courtesy and were obnoxious. Having them made the boat super-crowded. I requested a refund because of rescheduling (no issue with weather), but was denied. The manager on duty was rude and did not have the courtesy of saying sorry, when it was their fault.
Overall, World of Greenland is a terrible company, avoid them if you can. My suggestion: book with many small local companies who will do a private tour for about the same price.

My wife is pretty much confined to a wheelchair. The staff and boat crew made sure my wife was
able to take part in the Nighttime Ice Cruise and the whale watching.Fellow tourists were also
very helpful.Johnathon of the guides was most helpful.During the ice cruise he gave a
my wife a private guide to the bergs. The city walking tour was hard on the wheelchair pushers.
Ilulissat is a hard place for the disabled to navigate. She was not able to do the final stretch of
the hike to the old settlement and glacier view due to some steep steps, which WOG had no
control of.Their transport vans are not handicapped accessible,so I had to lift my wife into the van.
Probably World of Greenland doesn't get a lot of disabled travelers.I would use their service
again. Our travel agent had prebooked some of our tours which was good. Some of the tours
like the helicopter sold out so prebooking is essential.

This tour organiser is very professional and has a lot to choose from. We got our questions answered on the occasions that we were in there. Make sure that you book in advance if you only have a short time or if you have more time you can do like we did and book when you are there. BUT! We took the eqi tour and found that it was overrated. They said that there was a lot of calving the day before but not on the day we were there...so 5 hours there...and 5 hours back for not so much... The worst part was that there was supposed to be lunch during the trip and after the stop in Eqi when we asked about it they said that the lunch had been during the stop and that they had told people about it. We didn't hear about it and neither did another of the passengers. They said that tthere wasn't any food left and we were 3 people who didn't get any... It is included and they obviously don't bring enough and we had to go hungry because we were in the middle of nowhere and we didn't bring food because it was supposed to be included. The guide said she was sorry-that doesn't help us! It was a 12 hour excursion, so a long one... We told the people in the shop afterwards aswell but obviously the word compensation when you don't deliver hasn't reached Greenland yet! So we paid 1900Dkr for a crappy excursion and no food!!
The people in the shop who helped us were great but the tour sucked!
We tried the Ilmanaq tour with the operator around the corner and that was great! Shop around a bit, WOGAC is to big and don't care anymore!!

Dear Anette
Thank very much for your feedback.
I am glad to hear that you got your questions answered while being in our office and I agree with you in your thoughts about booking in advance. It is a very good idea. Especially, when travelling in July and August. The Eqi glacier is a spectacular phenomenon, as most glaciers in the world are. Some glaciers calves more than others – some never – and the Eqi glacier definitely calves a lot. Like every other natural phenomenon you will never know what to see or what to find and I think this is one of the many reasons we travel and search for new experiences. In my opinion the Eqi glacier does not need to calve even a tiny snowflake to be amazing enough to make the trip worth it. The coastline of Atâ Sund, the waterfall, the icebergs, the clean air and the Eqi glacier all contributes to the experience. I am sure that you had some beautiful and breathtaking views from the boat but I am sorry that you did not get to enjoy the buffet served. Part of the daily routine is to walk around the deck telling everybody that lunch has been served inside. This way the guide usually gets in contact with everybody on the ship. I am sorry to hear you missed it, but I hope that you got to taste the cake on the way back.
I respectfully take your feedback into account, Anette, and I will let the guide know to be more persistent in finding everybody on the ship. Thank you for being critical.
Best Regards,
Martin Bo Hansen

Goodmorning, planning to be there at March 30th to Apr 6th, after visiting Iceland.
The question is which activities are active at the end of winter, cause after searching in sites, most of them are ok in June to Sep.
I want to visir Eqi glacier, trip to see whales, the ice fiords, and dod sledge at least.
Are these activities doable at this time?
Many thanks Dimitris
Written July 23, 2018
Hello, if you check the world of greenland website you would be able to see the activities available in winter and as well as the dates and availability.

I will be there may 24-30, 2018. Will we ba able to take boat tours
Written February 25, 2018
I don’t know for sure, but suspect that you will. Everything depends on the water and weather conditions of course. I was there in the early stages of winter and was able to take several boat trips. Great place! Enjoy!!

Written August 21, 2017
If you are not coming during Midsummer Day (June 21 - 24), you do not want to book your tour too early due to the weather change. Remember the tour is not changeable or refundable. You can book your lodge 3-4 months in advance.

Hi Christina,
Last year around this time the vet stated that there were about 1400 dogs.
This year we suspect there might be fewer due to a dog sickness last year.
I heard estimates in the 900 to 1000 dogs.

I'm wondering how fit you have to be to undertake a dog sled ride in Greenland? I just looked up the "World of Greenland" website where the level of difficulty for a 3 day dog-sled ride is described as "very demanding". I'm kinda fit but definitely not superfit....can someone fill me in please?
Written May 26, 2015
Dear Lucy
In general you need to be able to walk uphill after the sledge. The other reason we call it demanding is due to the bumps that may occur on the way. Therefore, you need a healthy back as well.
We hope to see you in Ilulissat!
Best regards
Kristina
