- cocard37Tours, France5 contributionsDisorienting!El Nicho-Trinidad over 2 days at Meeting Point Varadero: it's not worth the cost: journey too long (departure 6:30 a.m. and return D+1 8:30 p.m.) Arriving around 1 p.m., we go directly to the El Campesino restaurant. after a mojito and a very good meal (the best of these 2 days) direction the El Nicho waterfall, Even if sometimes there are some steps that are a little high and that you will have to cross 2 or 3 times on a wooden plank with a small railing also made of wood, this place is worth seeing. To go down, it's on another, easier path. It rained a lot the previous days, the water was yellowish: a shame, but I still swam. A big thank you to Lidi, our guide on site, who was able to answer all our questions: about her country, the fauna, the flora and knowledgeable about Cuban plant pharmacopoeia.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 23, 2024

It rained the night before our visit which causes a rising in the water level therefore we couldn't swim as planned. They have life guard on-site to maintain safety.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 24, 2024

- mazzolfedProvince of Parma, Italy8 contributionsBeautiful corners in a short routeIf you're wondering if it's postcard-perfect: yes, it is. El Nicho is a short route with three waterfalls, one larger than the other, with beautiful crystal clear water and, what is more unique than rare on this island in spring-summer, fresh. The tour is short but allows you to see beautiful plants, highly sought after by us also to decorate interiors, spontaneous and lush there. Advice: be careful not to go with large groups and don't join them, the two or three most beautiful points are if there are only a few of you, otherwise it becomes a photography factory for tourists and loses its charm. It also takes luck. Another heartfelt tip: eat at the "little restaurant" at the pasino 200m eastwards outside the entrance to the route, called "Il campesino".Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 21, 2024
- MariagsMadrid, Spain117 contributionsNatural AreasMust see if you are in the area. With several bathing areas even the highest waterfall is accessible by a path with steps and walkways. Good level of cleanliness and not too crowded. Wear mosquito protection and sunscreen. The different price for locals and tourists but also is not crazy, is paid in local currency. There is a restaurant but I can not say about quality or prices as we ate in one a little further from the resort (El Campesino) recommended by the driver. The drinks were good price.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 18, 2024

End of the day at the waterfall where we bathed with Cubans who offered us rum. PERFECT!!!!!Visited October 2024Traveled with friendsWritten October 30, 2024

We were able to visit this area of outstanding natural beauty as part of our tour of Cuba organised by Wijin Travel. One exceptional part of this was the 14km ride up to the park in two classic cars, driven by father and son. The winding road would not really have been suitable for our minibus.
At the park a local guide/ranger led us through the forest pointing out interesting features, including a tocororo, the Cuban national bird, whose call we had clearly heard in the trees. There is great swimming in a natural pool below a small waterfall so be prepared for that. There are changing rooms and showers in the visitor centre if you need to freshen up afterwards.
Back at the visitor centre we had a good lunch and were well entertained by the barman, an award winning cocktail maker, who put on a good show by lining up six glasses and making his speciality cocktail which was enjoyed by all!

We stayed at Costasur and discussed a tour to El Nicho Falls with Hector from Cienfuegos by email before leaving Canada. Hector provided excellent communication, offering many options and prices. We contacted him once in Cuba and spent approx. 6 hr with Hector and his driver. Pick up at was at Costasur with a stop at a lookout point for fruit and pics along the way to El Nicho Falls. We hiked up with Hector as a very informative guide and then he took us to a Cuban buffet for an All-you-can-eat Lunch with many delicious choices. Hector was an awesome guide and would highly recommend his services. hectorguidecienfuegos@gmail.com or

We went in february and was not crowdy at all. I think it deserve the time and the money. You have 2 hours on the ticket, but at the exit, nobody verify if you stayed longer (we stayed 3 hours for exemple). From Cienfueguos we paid 25 CUC with taxi + 10 CUC (per person) the entrance. We swam in all the three natural pools and we loved it! At the panoramic view we took a tour for 3 CUC to a cave where inside are mammoth-like shapes. It was totally worth it!

We organised for our collectivo to stop at El Nicho while on the journey from Cienfuegos to Trinidad. This seems to be a popular option and I can see why - it is located in the mountains and takes a bit of effort to get to. Once we reached the destination the collectivo driver waited for 2 hours for us to enjoy the waterfall before continuing onwards. We left our bags in the boot of the car and this didnt seem unsafe (although I did take my valuables with me).
Despite previous reviews stating otherwise we were not charged an entry fee.
It only took us about 15 minutes to get to the waterfalls, despite the official signs portraying a much longer pathway time. The pathway to the top of the waterfalls (where the cave was) was blocked off with a ‘guide’ offering his services as the only way to enter this restricted area. I’m still not 100% sure if this was legitimate or not.
The El Nicho waterfall itself was not suitable for swimming but just beyond it was another waterfall that was. It filled rapidly with tourists.
There was a restaurant and toilets/change rooms near the entrance.
Overall I did enjoy this but I think this attraction doesn’t hold enough weight to suggest it would warrant a day trip from Trinidad or Cienfuegos on its own.

Wonderful, peaceful place outside of Cienfuegos. Bring your camera to take photos of the waterfalls, but do not forget your swimming suit. You can swim at the falls, but I would recommend watershoes as the rocks are slippery and sharp.

We booked a taxi from Cienfuegos, to Trinidad with a detour to el Nicho today, 01 May 22, for USD80.
The drive to El Nicho was around 1hr30mins, and we had a couple of hours there exploring the trails and waterfalls. The driver waited for us in the car park.
It costs CUP220 each to enter the trail. There are a couple of cafeterias serving toasted sandwiches and drinks (juices & alcohols).
We had 3 toasted ham&cheese sandwiches and 2 coffees, costing CUP400 which was reasonable.
There are 3 waterfalls, all within 5 mins of each other. The one at the top has a larger pool and we think it's nicer there.
Spending 2hrs there is enough for us. The water is cool which is nice to have a dip in.
The trail is not difficult, and not long either. You could go on it with your flipflops or trainers.
The drive to Trinidad from there is another 1hr30 mins.
We liked the detour, so worth it for us.

What an amazing place! Is stunning, the photos can do it justice. We were lucky to arrange a shared taxi from Cienfuegos to Trinidad with a stopover here, was the best decision! We spent 2 hours there, entrance fee is 240 pesos per person (we paid in pesos, no one said anything like I've seen in previous comments). They have good facilities, restaurant and bathrooms. Then there's a hike up the mountain where you stop in different levels of the waterfalls to swim 😍 absolutely stunning! There's also a viewpoint at the top! I just wished people were better at keeping their rubbish...

Today's visit was an absolute cheek and absolute joke. The tour over difficult roads was very demanding, interesting and offered interesting views. Finally arrived one demanded payment for tourists in euros and from locals in CUP. Since we only had CUP after several weeks of travel, we were denied entry. Also a higher payment in CUP was not of interest. So an absolutely tourist and customer unfriendly behavior and absolutely not comprehensible. Because of this for us a day trip with the motto "waste of time" and a warning to all tourists who have exchanged your money in Havana in good conscience.

Very beautiful waterfall, the most beautiful on the island for us. We visited it and swam in its pools during a magnificent day organized by the Cuba Criolla .com agency. Day by boat on a beautiful lake, lunch with fishermen who plant coffee, visit to their plantation in the forest, moment of real intimacy with these wonderful people.

Our casa owner organized a taxi for us from Cienfuegos. We paid €20 for the outward journey. The journey from Cienfuegos takes around 1-1.5 hours. We agreed that it would take 2 hours to meet back at the car park. That was enough. Then you follow the signs. First there is a path with a bit of jungle. There is also a restaurant there. Then you come to the first bridge and the first small waterfall. A few steps further you come to the huge waterfall (I think that is el Nicho). It is really beautiful and offers a perfect little rock for a portrait. Then you go up a slightly steeper and not entirely easy staircase. You walk over a small bridge over the river again. Once you get to the top you can either turn left towards the waterfall/natural pool or go straight to the lookout point. We went to the waterfall/natural pool first. It was beautiful! You can put your things down and go into the rather cold but beautiful natural pool. The viewing point is only 5 minutes away at most, I didn't think it was that special. You can go and have a look if you're already there.
Because we then drove straight to Trinidad, we paid another €25 for this route.
It's worth doing it first thing in the morning because there are hardly any people around. It gets quite busy from 11am onwards.

Hi , where in Cienfuegos can I find a taxi to El Nicho. Can somone recommend me a driver . What is a fair rate.
thanks for helping me.

I am sure your host will be able to organise a taxi or driver for you, if not you will be able to get one in town. Other people will be going there so you may be able to share a taxi with someone from your casa particular. Not sure what you should pay as we had same driver for our whole trip. Once there plan to spend at least two hours. There is a huge cafe there, but we took some food and had a picnic, very beautiful.
