Ruins, but worth a visit
Sep 2021 • Solo
We primarily went to Greenfield Valley Heritage Park but found these abbey ruins on the same site.
Those monks were a clever lot and it's only down to Henry viii that it's a ruin.
Peaceful surroundings

Great place if like me, you like ruins. I enjoyed walking around and taking pictures. Well kept and sensible dogs owners. Great place for the kids to play.

You can see the shrine from the road really but the place is very small with a gift shop your visit should only take half hour tops, but because of covid its closed.

Interesting and free
Aug 2020 • Family
We parked at the lower car park and walked up to the ruins, which are buggy/wheelchair friendly at least the main grounds. There aren't any information boards in the site but there are at the entrance on a board. Our kids loved it.

Basingwerk Abbey for history
Oct 2018
Lovely, well maintained grounds. Beautiful and calming place. You could spend a lot of hours here checking out the different architecture and dreaming of harsh living conditions. Out of doors so really only for a fine and/or sunny day. Bit overcast when we wer there but sitll a great afternnon out.

Large Enclosed Space Suitable for Little Legs
Mar 2019 • Family
Living relatively close to Basingwerk Abbey we visit on a relatively frequent basis.
There are two car parks that can be used (one on the Coast Road and the other on the Well Hill). There are disabled bays right next to the cafe. To access these you need to go via a small lane next to the Coast Road car park.
Basically Basingwerk Abbey is a ruin but it's also an enclosed large open space where kids can have a good run about and explore a little without going too far.
There's a lovely little cafe next to it that does hot food as well as snacks and ice creams and a Heritage Centre opposite which you have to pay for entrance. Greenfield Valley has farm animals, an old school house, a fabulous little park and water play and regularly has events on. Around the area are various mill ponds and a lovely walk on the old railway track up to Holywell.
If wanting something a little different as well there is painting and pottery (Wendy's Balloons) opposite the main car park so you could easily plan for a full day.

Picturesque Abbey that’s free to visit
Mar 2019 • Solo
There is a large free car park on the main road. From there it’s just a short walk up to the Abbey. Unfortunately contrary to the opening hours in the window the adjacent tea shop was closed as was the heritage centre. There are also no information boards as you wander the site to explain what you’re looking at. Having said that it’s all very beautiful and tranquil and well worth the visit.

Quiet afternoon in the Spring

An ancient monument, the remains of an Abbey that at one stage was linked to St Winnifred;s Well one of the 5 holiest shrines in the Roman Catholic Church. Good ruins and informative information. Worth a visit but pick the right weather !!!
