Since you are already at Mt. Rushmore, put on your walking shoes and hit the trail to see this amazing site up close and personal. Lots of steps, so take it slow and bring bottled water to hike the entire trail. Awesome picture opportunities!

Very cool trail, not difficult, but a lot of stairs. The museum at the bottom of the trail shows the models of what the sculptor wanted to do. There is a great explanation from park officials, and other informational displays.

It was a rather hot day when we visited but there were ample benches in shady areas to rest. My granddaughter especially enjoyed the tipi exhibit.

The trail is paved with 200 steps down and 100 steps back up. It was managable for all skill levels and ages. Great views of the monument.

Many different views of the presidents while walking this trail. The trail does go up and down steps alot but definitely worth the walk. The scenery is beautiful

Start to the left and go to the right. Otherwise you walk up 250 stairs instead of going down them! Good up close and personal view of the carvings.

Loved it, but some folks may not as there are lots of stairs. Great experience, and lots of places to take selfies and monument pics.

The Presidential Trail afforded our family a nice walk along the base of Mount Rushmore. The trail provides nice presidential biographies at points where each head looms large above. Its boardwalk is in very good condition, but its particular color camouflages descending stair treads in...More

We went on this trip with other families and the kids had a blast with all the different perspectives and quizzing one another with trivia from the signs along the way.

You can buzz through it quickly in 1/2hr or enjoy and read captions and see more special views taking 1 to 1-1/2 hr. '
Clockwise or COUNTER clockwise? Most of the other comments state counter. Also, if you send up where you start, wouldn't it all be the same? Thanks.

Depends on your stamina. I recommend clockwise, but either way works fine. My reasoning is that clockwise takes you to the close in viewing points sooner. And sometimes you will see mountain goats along that section of... More
