We took presidential trail to get up and close to the monument. It wasn't too difficult of a walk and they have informative plaques on the walk way. It's completely paved/bridged so it should be fine for most people. The path doesn't really consist of anything too step but there are numerous steps.

We did this on our visit for Mount Rushmore. I along with my two kids did the walk. What a great chance to get an up close view of the Presidents.

A trail that takes you down to the base of the monument and then around the grounds to the sculpture studio. If you plan to do the entire trail I suggest starting to the left of the amphitheater as most of the steps will be going down instead of up.

This is where the good views of the monument come from. There's lots of steps, but the trail is all paved or wood and is easy enough to walk. We visited on the perfect day with perfect weather which made the walk great. Visit the Sculptor's Studio for some interesting information. Bring your camera!!

We enjoyed this hike mostly for the exercise aspects. It was a decent workout after being in the car all day. There were stopping points along the trail with plaques to read about each president. There is also a wheelchair-accessible path if you take the trail to the right. It is a circle, so regardless of which direction you start,... More

Do not attempt this if you are not physically fit. My husband is military and even he got winded. My lungs were on fire. The stairs paired with a way higher altitude than I am used to was brutal.

It was great for us but not for the elderly or injured.. There are some steep steps to climb and a lot of them. But if you are healthy enough a must do absolutely beautiful. Compliments the visit nicely.

The Presidential Trail will give you a moderate workout. Lots of steps (up and down) are safe and are no problem for anyone that is in decent health. There are plenty of benches along the way where one can rest. Purchase the audio tour to get the full experience of the a trail. Stop often to check out the different... More
