- CactusPatchScottsdale, Arizona150 contributionsFocus on the shows and tours! We enjoyed our first visit to Out of Africa. We were lucky that the day worked out, a Thursday before the park would be closed for two days due to rain. You drive to the main parking lot, park and head to the entrance ticketing area. (Both our AAA or AARP membership gave us a 20% discount for our party of 4.) We were given a map and schedule of what would be happening with times and location. For us things started around 11 and included a critter talk, the safari bus tour, tiger splash, a reptile talk and a carnivore walk and feed. We left via the shuttle back to the entrance at 3. We had a light lunch snack at one of the snack bars. The shows are the key. It’s a must to see them. The animal enclosures are utilitarian in nature. The shuttle bus guides know where to look for animals in the enclosures to see the animals. My tip is to have small bills to tip the drivers and guides that go the extra mile helping.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 22, 2023
- Nancy P3 contributionsThe Love these people show the animals in their care!"My visit to Out of Africa was absolutely fantastic! From the exhilarating Tiger Splash to the captivating Predator Feed, every moment was filled with excitement and wonder. It's evident that the staff deeply care about the animals they rescue and care for. Their passion shines through in everything they do. It's truly heartwarming to see such dedication. Out of Africa is not just a wildlife park; it's a sanctuary where animals are loved and respected. I highly recommend visiting for an unforgettable experience."Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 16, 2024
- Stephanie BPayson, Arizona24 contributionsFly campBest way to experience the park is with a sleep out. It's well put together. You pick your spot and stay the night. You can bring whatever sleeping gear you want. I chose to sleep out in my sleeping bag. You can wander the park from the time you arrive till the next day. All the animals seem to be alert as the sun rises. It's very peaceful and a good opportunity to enjoy the park without the daily crowds. No shuttles, just you and the animalsVisited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 19, 2024

Similar to a zoo, Out of Africa offers a chance to get close up to some different animals. A basic admission gets one a safari ride, several shows, such as Tiger Splash (a white tiger that the handlers get to jump in a pool of water,) and access to walking the grounds where a variety of animals are housed. Appreciated that in one of the shows, The Giant Snake, they allowed everyone who wanted to touch the snake the opportunity to do so. Every show only happens once a day, so one needs to plan accordingly.
Feeding the giraffes is a highlight on the safari, but if they aren't out or don't cooperate, you can find other giraffes in their area and they like to be fed.
To do other activities that are offered, such as an extended safari, tiger feeding, and zipline, you can pay a little more, but again you have to plan to get it all in.
Seeing this once was good enough for my family.

Bought tickets on Groupon but still rather pricey. Admission did not include the tour for a large portion of the park which was about an additional $22.00 per person. If you don’t take the additional tour this is really just a zoo. Schedule for shows//demonstrations very good. Each show followed closely to the next but allowed time to get something to eat or use the facilities. Shows/Demonstrations not what advertised.

We visited on March 29th. We saw two shows - Tiger Splash & Boa Constrictor - and my son liked them. We thought it was very expensive for the experience we received. They didn’t have adequate facilities for water & snacks. All the vending machines were out of order & their one snack shack had a long line that took 15 or more minutes to get through. This is not great on a warm day when you walk long distances through the facilities.

we went on the zipline and in the park, just to give a honest opinion as we travelled quite some time to reach this place, as its marketed as the only zipline over animals. it is overrated, the people are nice, however the zipline is nothing major, and you dont feel much as if you are going over animals. the zoo is not huge compared to other zoos, however the best part we enjoyed was the tour in a old school bus without windows in the animal enclosure, you get to feed the giraffes up close and personal and see some nice animals up close. bottom line is if you are in the area it is nice to visit, but to drive far for this we wouldn't recommend.

Went on Wednesday about noon. Since there would be a lot of walking, it was very hot and I am handicapped, after talking to ticket seller, we decided to come back on Friday when they opened at 9:30 a.m. Arrived Friday at 9:45. There were about 10 cars in parking lot but when we tried to buy tickets for the SuperMog adventure (escorted ride through the park and Serengeti) were sold out. We were advised we should have purchased our tickets online. How on earth would we know that. We turned around and left.

We've been to the Cottonwood area a number of times driving by Out of Africa but we've never spent the time to visit. We finally did and what a joy. We visited on Tuesday when they have the drive thru of the park. What's really nice is you can circle around the park as many times as you want and I highly recommend that because as one of the staff mentioned when we checked in the animals are always moving and she was right. We really enjoyed our morning adventure. I'm glad we finally had the time to explore.

Because of the pandemic, Out Of Africa currently has a drive-thru experience. We’ve been to this park years ago and walked through it. We enjoyed that trip. But we loved driving through! My daughter and I feel like we saw much more this way. We drove through the loop 4 times and saw different animals and different activities each time. My daughter enjoyed standing in the car with her head and shoulders our of the sun roof to see better. The employees were all very friendly, knowledgeable, and cheerful. Definitely recommend!

Any experience that uses live exotic animals interaccting with people promotes animal abuse. Shows like tiger splash should not be occuring anymore. People are happy to see animals in clean large enclosures napping or doing what they do naturally. Become a true sanctuary and you'd have more visitors. Parents teach your children that wildlife doesn't have to perform to be enjoyed.

My birthday is July 24th, I will be 82. What is the current offer for birthdays??
Written July 13, 2020
I am so sorry that I did not see your question. I hope that you had a wonderful birthday!! Our birthday promotion is $10 (plus tax) for a general admission ticket.

We came through there yesterday and there were signs that the park is closed. How long is it going to be closed for?

Not sure as we have never seen a closed sign on the park.

You get in free your birthday month!!! This was definitely a perk for my family so we didn’t have to plan to go on their actual birthday if we had other plans.😁
Written September 27, 2018
Yes you do get in free during your birthday month! We couldn’t find info on that either, but it is something that they offer.

Hello Andrea D,
As far as the hoof stock goes when you are on safari, they easy to be seen and they know you arrive with treats. The carnivores are very similar to us, and when it is sunny and hot, they seek shade and their pools in the case of the tigers and bears. The Unimog Adventure Tour is a good way to upgrade and the guide has treats to bring the big cats up to the fences to see. It is $20 more per person (kids 5 years and up only), and you will also be going into the Serengeti area to feed to giraffe and camel.

what is the difference between the regular safari and the upgrades safari in the unibog?
Written February 28, 2018
The main differences between the African Bush Safari and the Unimog are the size of the vehicle, the amount of time spent with the guide and the areas your are toured thru. The African Bush Safari takes guests into the Serengeti area (where the free-roaming hoof stock live) and the Unimog takes guests thru that area as well as thru the wildlife preserve area where the carnivores live and brings them up to the fences for guests to meet with treats. The Unimog is time and date specific and limited on seating (11 am or 2 pm with roughly 40 seats available). During our busiest time of year (March & April) we do occasionally offer another tour time at 3:45 pm. Please let me know if you have more questions.

Is there a way I could actually go in the cages to pet and feed the lions?
Written October 21, 2017
Hello,
No we do not allow guests to enter into any of our large carnivore habitats to interact with them. That is for your safety as well as the protection of the animals. If you were to get injured, we would likely have to put the animal down, and that is not what we want to do. We love our animals and do not want to place them into harm, nor do we wish to see anyone of our guests harmed.

Does the Feed a Tiger allow you to feed the white tiger, or is that only for the VIP tickets?
Written August 29, 2017
That is a great question. We have several different tigers that take turns playing in the Tiger Splash Show. The tiger(s) that plays in the show is generally the cat for the feed-a-tiger opportunity, which isis maybe two days out of the week, provided they want to come play. The VIP's generally also feed the tiger that is in the arena after the show as well. We have a male and a female white tiger, unrelated, and they are not in the same habitat together.
