A small city with very interesting public buildings, but most of the private buildings are somewhat dilapidated.
I recommend visiting the Cathedral and its Museum, as well as going around the Roman Wall to see the entire city.
Many quality options in restaurants, cafes and pastry shops.

This large and impressive square is the focal point of activity within the walls of Lugo.
Lined with numerous bars, cafes and shops, the square is highlighted by the town hall and clock tower.

All of the coffee shops are staffed with people who don't care about you unless you are an old resident. Overpriced. But it is worth a visit for the architecture . The shops around the plaza are very nice and shop owners are very friendly . Definitely worth it.

This is the big deal in Lugo. It is the biggest plaza/square in Lugo. You can see the cathedral from here. The town hall is here. Yup. That is pretty much "it" and not exactly a reason to come here.

we stayed in an apartment in this plaza and we were so happy because there were so many good places to eat and all within a very short walking distance away. the fountain and plaza area was always full of people at nite.

You can say that the Plaza Mayor is the centre of life in the city of Lugo, located in the medieval space where the market was held during the sixteenth century; later on, new buildings were built and expanded the plaza. The most important building on this location is the Town Hall, the clock Tower, and some other interesting building, nice location to spend some time, we went in winter but can imagine what it would be in summer time.

I was fortunate to be able to work in Lugo albeit a short 6 months. Plaza Mayor was beautiful when the sun was shining and the quaint cafes and restaurants in the area made it even more special.
Loved the gas burners that were used in the outside seating areas which although looked amazing at night really had a purpose which was to keep you warm during the cold winter months.
Please be aware that many locals do not speak English so it can be difficult to communicate without a translator just download an easily available phone app to help you if you're one of the lazy travelers like me!
Also great place to practice your Spanish or learn it and safe for children and is relatively flat for more elderly travelers not wishing to climb mountains or stairs.
Enjoy the hamon and free tapas and experience you won't forget while enjoying the roija.

This was a beautiful sunny autumn day in Lugo, so maybe we saw the main square at its best, but this is a lovely open space in the centre of the old city inside the Roman walls. It has plenty of seating, a vivid red bandstand and, like so many Galician cities, a wide variety of architectural styles to see all around it, including an 18th century Town Hall and more modern 20th century buildings. There are great views of the towers of the Cathedral which is just off the Plaza. This is an important visitor location if you are coming to this part of Spain.

Walking through the old city, it is very difficult not to come across the Plaza Mayor. This seems to be a focal point with well kept borders, restaurants and plenty of people milling around in the evening sunshine.
