    A must for visiting Lugo
Very ornate church with a museum upstairs. They give you an audio guide which is great so you don’t have to read everything. It comes in multiple languages including English. You get better views of the church when you are going through the museum

    Must see in Lugo!
An abosulte must see when in Lugo! The cathedral is exeptional. With your entrance ticket you get a mobile tour device. The museum on the second floor is well laid out. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a great visit!

    Impressive Must
If you are visiting Lugo this is a must (one of the easiest accesses to the wall is by the front). A beautiful cathedral with a good audio guide (inc in the entrance fee). Knowledgeable and helpful staff. No photos allowed which is a shame - even Santiago allow photos (no flash). Museum upstairs is worth a visit.

    Absolutely interesting cathedral with museum
The cathedral was a real discovery with a spectacular “ retablo” and it’s important and stunning decorations. You pay 6 euros and get earphones in English or Spanish to understand more about this spectacular cathedral . Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to take photos . On the “ second floor” of the church there is a beautiful and interesting museum with many wooden statues mostly of the Virgin Mary and a unique “ retablo” perfectly painted and preserved. Make sure not to be there at 12:00 pm as there is a mass and you will have to wait 30 min before visiting the front part of the cathedral .

Began in 1129, it was finished in 1273. The formal name is Cathedral of Santa Maria de Lugo and has all the bells and whistles of a Medieval church. Lugo is a city that was founded by the Romans.

The interior has the vaulting expected in a Medieval church and there are so very many chapels and a wealth of things to see. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to fully appreciate the cathedral's beauty.

Just as a heads-up: the tourist must leave the church when the services begin. We were here on a Thursday, had paid our fee (5.50 EU each, reduced rate) and maybe got to see the church for all of 15 minutes before being ushered out. Although we were told we could return when the service was over, our tour would be leaving long before then.

The church is a expensive monument to maintain and the small fee charged for admission does help to pay the bills.

Lugo is a memorable city and its cathedral is among the most beautiful in northern Spain rivalling Santiago de Compostela on the inside. Certainly take the time to visit Lugo and put an hour or two aside for the cathedral and environs.

It´s not huge, but impressive. Perhaps this is not one of the cathedrals you´ve heard of a lot compared to others, but don´t miss it if you are in the city. Although the main facade is clearly neoclassical, once you enter the temple you´ll see that there is a mixture of styles, being this characteristic also in the side areas. One original trait in this temple is that it seems to be divided internally in separated parts. The main atractive of this building is that it seems "to have that something" that many other monuments lack. So, if you are a bit short of time on your stay in Lugo, focus on to the Cathedral, the Roman Walls and the less monumental but nice Plaza Mayor to make the most of your visit.

Very beautiful Cathedral, ornate and imposing.....although not religious there is no doubt that the inside was incredible with a real sense of calm. A service was in progress but visitors were still allowed to walk around, respectfully, and take in the quite intimate atmosphere! A visit to a Abbey or Cathedral in any city is always a 'must' but Catedral de Lugo is not one to miss!

Beautiful cathedral. It still holds mass so they ask you to be respectful of worshippers. Audio guide is included in admissions price is very informative. Camino pilgrims get a reduced price.

Awesome! Big museum to visit. Beautiful and big to see. Too much to describe everything but recommend you to go and see yourself the best way. Wear comfortable shoes.

Much less crowded than Santiago's cathedral and just as exotic and grandiose. Very quiet when we went which was such a plus.

Calm, awesome ancient place. One of the most beautiful cathedrals we have seen in Northern Spain as it is not too OTT.

We came here the day after experiencing the total chaos of the Cathedral in Santiago, which is overwhelmed by Camino pilgrims and a deeply disappointing experience. Lego’s Cathedral couldn’t be more different. It’s serene, quiet and while it has an equally vivid altar and chancel, it seems to have so much more to offer visitors and worshipers alike. There are some fascinating side chapels to see. The entrance has the simplest but most wonderful Romanesque arch. Very well worth a visit.
