Love Trains but This is Rundown
Jun 2021
Disappointing how rundown it is. Very dusty and dirty inside. Trains outside are rusting, faded, hulks of the past.

Free. A lot of interesting displays. Huge date nail collection which was fun to see. Rolling stock in bad shape. Interactive cab broken.

Maybe they should charge something and do some refurb? I'd be happy to pay $5-10.

Several trains
Jul 2019
The Western America Railroad museum is worth a look around while visiting the nearby Route 66 museum, several trains on display, some could do with a little TLC, worth a wander around.

Train Cars

Static display of a few railroad cars. Not too much to see beyond walking around these railroad items.

Railroad history at it's finest.

Located in the Barstow Harvey House just north of Route 66. There are many unique artifacts here. Take a step back in time and learn our rail history.

There are several rail cars but they are not open to walk through. Given the area it is a good thing, to preserve them.

Nice little museum

If you are in Barstow or stopping for fuel/food, this is a nice place to checkout, especially if you love trains. There is a gift shop as well. My only complaint is the very limited days/hours the museum is open.

Different kind of a museum..

The Railroad museum is small but interesting , old items form the railroad past at Barstow. The Museum lies right along the tracks at the old Amtrak depot .. I wouldn’t make it a special trip trip to visit but if a person is in the area it’s OK.

FUN BUT VERY SMALL RAILROAD MUSEUM
Jan 2019 • Solo
The Western America Railroad Museum is a fun visit if you are in Barstow. It is housed in the Harvey House Casa del Desierto. Now although the Railroad Museum is small, the Harvey House also has a Route 66 and a NASA museum. So it's a great place to stop to visit three museums.

There are a number of old railroad cars outside so kids will like walking around and seeing them from the outside. This is a small museum. They have bits of history. I like to stop by because I like their gift store.

Although it is not a must see, the Harvey House is worth a stop because of the three small museums in one building.

Very Interesting

So much stuff and so little time. Very interesting displays, histories, and a very large date nail collection. Depending on the shape of the nail, it designated the quality and type of wood used for railroad ties. Most interesting and well worth visiting.

Not just your ordinary train museum
Apr 2018 • Couples
We went mainly because of interest in the Harvey House and Harvey Girls, and found a few pictures of that which were interesting. It was fun to climb on a couple of the train cars; we've seen several videos of old deserted train cars in the desert, and these reminded us of those movies. No set fee, but a donations is much appreciated. Helpful staff.
