Time of year
This monastery has so much history, it is hard to believe it's age. It is kept in pristine condition and look spectacular when lit up at night.
Of the Benedictine Monastery only the church remains. Inside the church lie the tombs of the most notable abbots of the monastery.
Rather bare but elegant inside; outside makes for a nice photo opportunity. Get there early or in late afternoon as sun can play a spoilsport for the photos at other times. Check out the closure times before you get there. Well worth the visit.
The church beckoned on a hot day, and is well worth visiting. We were surprised to be asked to pay 1 euro to go in, but would have gone in if it had been several euros.
Parts of this church dated back over a thousand years, though it has had several restorations over time. It is simple inside but lovely and cool to escape the heat of the sun. The leaflet we were given calls it The Abbey of Sant Pere de Besalú.
