Worth a visit.

This monastery has so much history, it is hard to believe it's age.
It is kept in pristine condition and look spectacular when lit up at night.

Benedictine Monastery of Sant Pere
May 2019
Of the Benedictine Monastery only the church remains. Inside the church lie the tombs of the most notable abbots of the monastery.

Facade makes for a good photo
Sep 2019 • Couples
Rather bare but elegant inside; outside makes for a nice photo opportunity. Get there early or in late afternoon as sun can play a spoilsport for the photos at other times. Check out the closure times before you get there. Well worth the visit.

Cool and quiet on main square

The church beckoned on a hot day, and is well worth visiting. We were surprised to be asked to pay 1 euro to go in, but would have gone in if it had been several euros.

Ancient Building
Jun 2019 • Couples
Parts of this church dated back over a thousand years, though it has had several restorations over time. It is simple inside but lovely and cool to escape the heat of the sun.
The leaflet we were given calls it The Abbey of Sant Pere de Besalú.

An extraordinary place where you feel the history
Apr 2019 • Couples
It is a Benedictine temple of the tenth century. It is a building of three naves separated by arches, a marked transept finished at each end by separate apse chapels, and a monumental head characterized by the interesting ambulatory that surrounds the area Presbyterial. For history lovers a very interesting place to visit.

Not flashy, but peaceful and cool
Jul 2018 • Family
If you have a trip like ours, yes, you will see flashier and more impressive churches and monasteries. But this one seems more like it must have been back in the day. I enjoyed this place.

Main church in Besalú
Jul 2018 • Solo
Church is in the main square. It is very cool inside, so good to pop in on a hot day. The church is very run down and you have to pay a Euro to go in, which is odd for a place of worship.

Step Back in Time

This building is a true lesson in history and a really well preserved piece of Spain's history. The building is lovely and absolutely worth looking at. You feel like you are stepping back in time. I loved this building.

A walk around Besalu
Dec 2016 • Couples
to get to the Sant Pere Monastery you have to go through the village. On reaching the Monastery we found out, to take Photos of the inside of the Monastery it costs 1 euro taken through the glass doors, I find this a bit of a rip of after visiting other churches. The village is a must for anyone interested in History
