Impressive place for surfers and for everybody else
Sep 2019
Another impressive natural spot in Asturias. The beach is magnificent, with green mountains coming into the sea both sides. It´s a wide beach, completely open, not urbanised, although tides seem to be strong, as well as wind. There´s a big parking lot, so it´s not so remote a place as one might wish, and access is easy through local roads. Stunning place.

A stunning beach & beautiful beach. A lovely day spent there. A busy beach but not overcrowded. Surfing school was being taught the day we visited as the waves are awesome. A kiosk with food, drinks available. Clean toilets & showers on the site. Room for picnics & not overcrowded. A re visit is on the cards.

Great beach but gets VERY busy
Aug 2018 • Family
This beach is a fairly well known surf spot; in fact it's World class and when the conditions are right, the left hander off the harbour wall/cliff is one of the best in Europe. HOWEVER it has a reputation for localism which I had not seen any sign of two years in a row but this year it reared it's ugly head with one poor German chap being pretty much shouted out of the water. Luckily I have a fairly "Spanish" look and tend to blend in but this was still not great.
The beach is lovely; with a fossil filled cliff at one end.
Parking is impressive with a large free area - we camped (campervan) for the surf but that area is now confined to one small section of the carpark which feels rather dirty. Facilities (loos, showers, sinks) don't open until 11.30am - they used to stay open all night and this seems to have resulted in a lot of loo roll everywhere.
Overall it's a good beach - eating options are very limited and there is no general stores anywhere but go prepared and you should enjoy it.
If you do surf, go at first light before the locals get in then expect to get out an hour later.

nice boardwalk and facilities
Aug 2018 • Couples
We walked on the boardwalk and in the eucalyptus forest, rented paddle boards, swam, had some beers. It's a very nice beach located on a estuary so very interesting at different times of the tide. It was very busy as it was the first week of August, but apparently it's quiet in July. We'd go back here, there's some surfing to be had as well.

fabulous beach
Jul 2018 • Couples
This is a fabulous sweep od clean fine sand at the head of the Villaviciosa estuary. Depending on weather and state of tide it variously offers scope for all types of family beach fun from surfing to paddling, beach games, play with children, rock pools and shallow swimming pools left by the receding tide for small children. But the currents and sand banks and gently sloping beach also make it a potentially dangerous place and it is well staffed with life guards both on the beach and in a boat off shore as necessary and there are loudspeaker safety notices put out from time to time as necessary. The beach is carefully zoned for swimming and surfing again variable as tide changes and with safety clearly in mind. The life guards are watchful. There is a very large car park - "verde" when we were there this week but expect it to be full by mid morning on a sunny weekend as the Spanish all pour down for the day with picnics and sun umbrellas etc. A very friendly atmosphere prevailed when we were there on a sunny Saturday and we loved it. At high tide on a cloudy weekend it is a different place again but still loved the long walk and paddle.

Good facilities

We could see this beach from our apartment, we took the drive round the estuary to find it.
Free parking leads through a wooded area set with picnic tables to a very clean beach.
Worth seeking out.

Great day out
Aug 2017 • Family
We have spent 6 or 7 days on this beach during our two week holiday, the beach is very clean, good facilities and great for surfing or boogie boards. Our children aged 9 and 14 loved it.

Fantastic beach
Aug 2017 • Family
large with lots of facilities - cafe's, toilets and showers. Went on a sunny Saturday and there is a large car park that just had space. The waves break at a fair height and are powerful, which is great fun but may be daunting for young children.

Big surf!
Aug 2017 • Family
Visited here so my 17 year old surfer son could experience the famous Rodile wave. However, he found it a little scary and ended up at the other end of the beach where the waves are tamer but still (apparently) good.

Nice long sandy beach, fairly busy (in August) with mostly Spanish families, however easy to find a spot to sit and people watch. Lifeguards on the beach and in boats on the water.

Very very busy
Aug 2017 • Family
Only came here once, it's a very long sandy beach but it's also very busy. Parking is a nightmare, you feel very lucky to get a space. There is no shade at all on the beach either. The loudspeaker system is not a good thing, peace would be preferable.
