What an amazing week we had at Flamenco la Fuente! My hubby and I booked this treat for ourselves because we both love flamenco and wanted to take some time to relax in a beautiful location whilst brushing up on dancing (me), and guitar (him).
I've been learning flamenco for a few years but wanted to challenge myself and focus on technique and posture. Likewise, my husband wanted to get into the nitty gritty of guitar.
We both came away thinking, wow!! We have learnt so much in just one week and had such a fabulous time with the most kind hearted and lovely teachers.
I had 2 hours of dancing every day, mostly one to one, but sometimes I joined a group too. Both experiences were valuable.
The group lessons were really fun and being more people, we could do things like dance in a 'Buleria circle'. I was a bit terrified at first as the last time I did this I had no idea what I was doing, but Paula explained exactly when to start and which beat to listen out for. She had a knack for de-complicating things and making things which were previously slightly scary and mysterious suddenly click into place.
Paula also had a knack for pushing me just to the point where I felt challenged, but not overwhelmed. She was so patient and answered a lot of questions I had on centering, weight transfer and flow. (She spoke excellent English by the way thanks to having worked in London for a few years).
I also had the privilege of dancing with Paula's mum, Cristina. Like Paula, she has a beautiful way of teaching that made me feel OK with the world and at ease.
I have returned to the UK with more confidence as a dancer and zillions of tools in my flamenco tool kit.
I would totally recommend this holiday for anyone looking for the complete package; dancing or guitar, relaxing in beautiful scenery, amazing food and wine.
I would also say not to be put off by getting here, yes it's a bit 'back of beyond', but it's easy to get here by bus from Malaga airport via Granada, you can do it in one day and it's cheap as chips on the bus and a very pleasant journey with tons of incredible scenery.

Having learnt the art of Flamenco in South Africa I felt that it was time to learn more about the passion in Spain itself. While I was looking at various schools on the Internet I came across Flamenco La Fuente in Capileira. I did not take much to convince me that this was the right choice- small town with plenty of history, situated in the Alpujarra mountains, lots of hiking routes, 2 hours of Flamenco a day!
Having just left Capileira by bus, I am so exhilarated by all I have learnt this week. Paula, the daughter of Cristina, is a wonderful teacher with so much patience and so much talent! She taught us Bulerias de Jerez, a pasos I was unfamiliar with, and am now richer with. The other nice thing was that we were never more than 5 people in total in the class, so you had plenty of space and of course the personal attention from the teacher, which is very valuable.
The whole process of booking was so effortless. Nani was extremely efficient and so helpful. Cristina even picked me up from the bus station in Granada, and took me out for a trip in the Alpujarras.
I stayed in the rustic apartment right above the studio in the plaza. The accommodation was lovely and so comfortable and I would recommend it for anyone who wishes to have a self catering option. There are plenty of restaurants in town so the options are vast.
I will most definitely be returning to Capileira and Escuela Flamenco La Fuente!

This small school has everything needed to study the basics of Flamenco - a professional and nice teacher, a big mirror and the Andalusian environment. Thank you, Cristina!

It was a great experience to spend one week in Capileria and learn flamenco at the La Fuente. Cristina and Paula were fantastic teachers, and it was intensive. The hotel was also arranged by the Flamenco Centre La Fuente, at the Hostal Poqueira a great place to stay. They have the Restaurante Mesón Poqueira with tipical Alpujarra food.
Very good value and i just cant wait to come back.

Looking for a place to learn Flamenco? Then, I highly recommend this school! I went to Spain in search for the "Duende" (the magic) of Flamenco and I found "La Fuente"! In the lovely mountain village Capileira, I met Cristina (the owner) and her daughter Paula (who recently gave birth to the third generation in the Flamenco studio!) and their family. They made me feel at home at once! I was very lucky to have 4 hours of dancing lessons with Paula during the weekend. She was really dedicated! A great teacher, with the right spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She gave me key knowledge, ... and my understanding of Flamenco reached a new level. A true inspiration!
I also had the pleasure of participating in a "cajon" class. The teacher Antonio insisted and so I got one more oppurtunity to understand the core of the Flamenco rythms. Challeging, yes... and great fun! Though, it was great travelling alone, I would recommend the school for small groups. It would have been fantastic to share this experience with my Flamenco friends in Norway. I really regret that I couldn't stay longer... and I'm already dreaming of going back to Capileira and the Fuente-team... Ole!

If you like the South of Spain and are interested in practicing Flamenco, then you will enjoy booking a course at Flamenco La Fuente. Cristina Serrano is a skilled dancer and equally experienced and enthusiastic teacher and will happily tell you all you want to know about the structure of various dances, the rhythm, clapping and of course technique. It is fun learning so many new steps and get more awareness concerning one's body posture and appearance. In the end of the lesson one's heart and head are full of the lovely music and one is eagerly waiting for the next day. Many thanks!!

As a dance educator I attended escuela de flamenco la fuente as a workshop to learn the basics of flamenco. By the end of the week I had learned Palmas (rythmical clapping in two styles) along with footwork , intricacies of hands/arms, ending the week with a simple but challenging choreography in flamenco tangos. It was an experience that has influenced me to take my learning further in flamenco.
Cristina and her family were most accommodating and helpful from sending my first email of enquiry up until my arrival, where i was met by Cristina who escorted me to my hotel.
Her teaching was clear and precise with instruction making it easy to follow. Cristina is very patient and will work at a standard to your suit your ability, not once did I feel intimidated by her professionalism.
I highly recommend her workshop for anyone who is interested to learn or just have a basic understanding of flamenco to appreciate a music or flamenco performance. There is nothing more fun than learning a new dance style at leisure or for pleasure and this is a perfect way to understand and learn a little of Spanish culture and passion.
About capileira..... spectacular and filled with warmth is the topography (just like it's wine ❤❤❤❤). I have certainly been inspired to continue my learning.

My husband and I had a course over three days in flamenco rhythms at Christina's flamenco school in the centre of Capileira village, high in the mountains of Andalucia. We were really impressed by our tutors Paula and Miguelo, who took us through a well-planned progression of different flamenco rhythms, accompanied by passionate and energetic flamenco guitar and dance. They are friendly, warm and talented people who inspired and took us through the basics of the 'Compas' rhythms of flamenco, and how to clap an accompaniment (Palmas) to Tangos, Alegrias, Soleas and Bulerias.
Everything was taught in a relaxed, fun and accessible way and Paula and Miguel's English is very good (if like us your Spanish is rusty!)
Christina's planning and communication beforehand was very good and contributed to this being one of the highlights of our holiday - I can't recommend Flamenco La Fuente enough!

Discovered this lovely little dance school on a walking holiday, and took a class. Excellent teachers, great for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Well worth a visit as village is delightful, people are lovely, food is great and accommodation is excellent.

My Flamenco experience in Capileira last year was so good that I suggested it for the Flamenco group in my home town. However, they were also ready for beach and shopping... Cristina - the owner of La Fuente - is a positive lady with lovely solutions: she rented a studio in Marbella and gave us uforgettable moments, insisting that we bring out the magic of the duende in ourselves! Hard work and happiness! Ole! We had a great Flamenco weekend in Marbella! Though I would recommend Capileira - a really special experience... and the origin of the Flamenco spirit of Escuela La Fuente!
