We took part in a herbal workshop which I can highly recommend to anyone in the Lanjaron area! It's based in a stunning country house overlooking the Sierra Nevada's and Morocco in the distance with amazing gardens and great hosts. We were shown around the gardens where they grow everything from lettuce, carrots to cherries and quince and all grown naturally!

The workshop was superb with a great host, where we made personalised calendual skin balm with different essential oils to match our skin types! We were able to take this home with us as an added bonus and were also served a scrumptious lunch all taken fresh from the garden! I can't recommend enough to spend a couple hours of your day eating great food in great company with a stunning view!!

What an excellent day hill walking a natural park in La Alpujarra near the village of Lanjaron learning about wild flowers and herbs in the area. Sue and Pete are truly knowledgeable and caring about their environment. The home made soup, cheese and bread that they made for lunch was out of this world. I thoroughly enjoyed walking around in their organic garden and leaning more on how one can become more self sufficient. Thank you so much Sue and Pete for making last October 30th a memorable day for me.

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon! Sue and Pete are incredibly hospitable and entertaining at their organic farm. We had a full tour of what was being grown, with interesting tips and explanations, and he treated us to some delicious home made bread (the rosemary and olive was exceptional) baked fresh for us to have with the goats cheese that Sue taught us how to make. I had no idea making cheese was so easy and we were given recipes on how to make ricotta, feta and halloumi which i will be trying at home. Spent a marvellous afternoon there and it's well worth a visit. The drive up to to the farm takes you up a windy and dusty road - those with vertigo beware ! - but the view from their farm was just stunning. Do go!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to us in La Alpujarra as well as the cakes & cheese! May is certainly the best time to visit for the wildflowers and the lovely weather, not too hot and great for getting out and about for foraging for wild herbs

Last month I spent a day organised by Sue and Pete Rodgers at their home in the mountains overlooking Lanjaron. I had been there before on a bread and cheese making course and this time it was to be a day out exploring the local plant life with a view to understanding a bit more about natural remedies. I have to admit that I am not always the most robust of hikers and dreaded the walk from Lanjaron up to the Rodgers' home. However, Sue took things easy, stopping frequently and pointing out plants and other interesting features on the way; it really didn't feel like too much of a strain and the views were worth the effort! Just wear comfy shoes, a hat if the sun bothers you and otherwise travel light. I had chosen this day out partly for the benefit of a visitor who is interested in self-sufficiency. When we arrived at the property, Pete showed us around the gardens and gave us an insight into how he and Sue manage clearly quite comfortably with regard to energy and water supplies etc. As on my previous visit, a delicious lunch (with home-grown produce) was served by Sue. Afterwards we discussed the properties of various herbs and plants and had a go at making our own balm to take home with us. With Sue's guidance, I concocted an ointment intended for scar reduction which I am now trying on a daily basis. I have to admit that I wished there had been a bit more time for tinkering with potions and ointments but at least I now have an insight into what might be achieved at home.

It was an absorbing day out with a difference and I would recommend it to those who are interested in exploring the use of natural remedies. It's a good starting point to set you thinking.

Thank you so much for your review . I'm glad you had a good time. I will try and build into the day more time to play with the lotions and potions in future thanks for the comment

We had a fabulous time visiting Lanjaron and the day spent with Sue and Pete, made the trip!
Sue has such impressive, sound knowledge of the history of Lanjaron and of the native plants and wilderness that we came across on our walk. The walk didn't seem strenuous or long, as the route we were taken on up the mountain was breathtakingly stunning and the company very pleasant.
We stopped off for lunch at the gorgeous home of Sue and Pete's where Pete (and the hospitable pets) were awaiting out arrival, making us feel very welcomed. The pair had spent a lot of time and effort making two different organic soups (all produce of which had been grown and picked by themselves in their own garden) and hand made bread, fruit and cheeses accompanying this. As myself and another lady have food intolerances, they had managed to cater for our dietary needs and were still able to enjoy some wonderful food! A luxury not expected in such a small town.
Before making our way back down the mountain, to the town, Pete entertained us with a tour of their property, astounding us that they had hand-built it all!
I felt very rejuvenated, cleansed and relaxed after such a wonderful day! Thanks team, I will be back!

We spent a really enjoyable, interesting and educational day with Sue and Pete on one of Nevada Naturals' foraging walks. Sue and Pete are excellent company and the 6 hr day flew by. The morning was spent on a spectacular walk with Sue picking all sorts of leaves and flowers which we were to make into our lunch when we arrived at their beautiful home in the mountains outside Lanjaron. Sue and Pete then cooked a delicious lunch including our foraged ingredients of ‘fat hen’ fennel and sorrel (to name a just a few); we got involved making herb butters and a salad. After lunch Pete gave us a tour of the organic garden and an introduction to self-sufficiency which was incredibly interesting.

We would thoroughly recommend one of Nevada Naturals' workshops or walks as a way of experiencing the beautiful Alpajarra region beyond the normal touristy activities. Thank you Sue and Pete!

Thank you Caroline & Ian for your kind review. We also thoroughly enjoyed the day as you were both so interested in what we are doing here in the beautiful Alpujarra. As we said you are always welcome to ask any questions about growing fruit and veg etc

We had a wonderful day exploring the countryside around Lanjaron with a guided wildflower walk led by Sue up to her home in the hills above the town. The walk was enjoyable, steepish in places and through sunshine and shade with plenty of stops to look at plants especially edible plants or herbs under Sue’s very knowledgeable guidance.
On arrival at the cortijo we were shown around Sue and Pete’s beautiful organic garden before sitting down to a fantastic lunch. After lunch we spent a couple of hours learning how to make jars of skin balm and natural air-fresheners using essential oils. Then we skipped down the mountain with our jars, full of enthusiasm to have another go at using our new skills and knowledge at home.
Sue and Pete’s friendliness made this a really enjoyable day out – a really nice combination of finding out more about wildflowers, having a good walk, a super lunch and learning new skills. Terrific value for money too.

Went for a very interesting herbal walk with a group of 33 people, with Sue explaining about the local herbs and flowers. We arrived at their beautiful cortijo with a breathtaking view where Pete received us with cold drinks followed by a delicious lunch made with ecological and locally sourced produce. After this Sue taught us to make our own cheese, with milk from the local goats, of course, which was a blast. Pete took us for an entertaining and very interesting walk around their plantations, telling us all about their tips and tricks for sustainable agriculture in the mountains. Sue and Pete are so nice, friendly and helpful, nobody wanted to leave.
It was such a great experience, we all loved it and will remember it for a long time!

My husband and I spent the day making bread and cheese with Sue and Pete. Lunch was served using cheeses, breads and vegetables made or grown at their cortijo and we left with our own breads and cheeses along with comprehensive notes to allow us to replicate at home. All in all a great day
