My husband and I have just returned from Spanish Gastronomic Holidays' 7-day Andalucian Gourmet trip and, quite simply, it was among the best holidays we've ever had! Steve French, our guide and instructor was brilliant: full of enthusiasm and knowledge about Spanish cuisine, but also an immensely patient and easy-going teacher.
It was clear that Steve has put a lot of thought into crafting his holidays, as each day featured a particular foodie theme that not only proved interesting, challenging and fun, but also involved a trip into the surrounding countryside to visit either a local artisan producer or a fascinating historic site associated with Spanish food or culture.
Every day was a winner, but the highlights for me included our paella masterclass, where we made not one, but three kinds of paella, including a sensational black one; a foraging walk to a local organic farm where we made cheese, bread and chorizo; and last, but by no means least, a trip to Granada for an atmospheric tapas crawl and a visit to the amazing St Augustin Mercado to collect the makings of our final feast.
If you’re looking for an enjoyable, relaxing holiday that combines cooking, culture and a bit of sight-seeing, then look no further.

A fantastic week- the highlight was paella making (3 different types) and associated seafood prep...followed by the eating! The visits were also great fun, informative and fattening. Steve, the host , really knows his stuff but also how it fits with the culinary and cultural traditions of the surrounding Alpujarra mountains.
Highly recommended- Que Aproveche!

Just returned from the “7 day Andalucian gourmet trip” in Lanjaron. We had the most amazing holiday – a combination of entertainment and education. Steve French proved a fantastic guide to both the geography, history and food of the Alpujarras and beyond. We left Britain as novice cooks as far as Spanish food is concerned, and returned full of confidence to make gazpacho, paella, tortillas and more! One of the most fascinating and enjoyable holidays we’ve had for many years.

Very enjoyable and informative paella making session with chef Steve French, in his traditional house in the old barrio Hondillo in The picturesque spa town of Lanjaron (Alpujarras) We learnt how to prepare squid, octopus, and cuttlefish and made three types of paella (one with snails), which we then enjoyed eating with Galician style octopus, and a choice of wines on the terrace. Very tasty and a great evening.
