We got to the river at the end of a long bike ride on a hot day. The path led us down to a quiet private spot under a covered bridge and we dipped our feet into the running water. Very pleasant.

Such a gorgeous river, you can take in the views while dining at Simon Pearce or even swim in it if you're brave enough to use a rope swing. Or hike down the gorge.

The Taftsville Bidge is photographed here. It crosses the Ottoqueeche River. there's a picturesque dam and a small electrical power plant which the water supplies.

Covered bridges are so cool. And Vermont has many. This is not the longest but it is an impressive offering. If you are near Woodstock don’t miss it. Go east on route 4 from Woodstock and cross to other side. Take photos from north side....More

Route 4 from Woodstock to Bridgewater along the Ottaquechee is fascinating. Take a left on 100A and treat yourself to a visit to Silent Cal Coolidge's homestead at the top of the climb out of the valley.

Summer it is nice to go down and sit or wade in it. Winter time it is flowing and crystal clear. Listening to the flow is great.

Picture perfect Vermont. Great visit spot any season. The river runs better in April after the snow has melted.

Actually, in Woodstock, there are two bridges: one at the east end and one at the west end, over the river. Seeing covered bridges (functional at that) is always a treat, though, even for us (and we're from CT, where we have three antique ones...More
