This is the first place I headed when arriving in Woodstock. The covered bridges really set the scene. Houses line the river bank in Woodstock. The river is very pretty in Autumn.

This is a very cool Vermont small town, although one with huge, expensive, old houses. A small but scenic Green and several covered bridges add to the charm. The river runs right through town. It would look like a Currier and Ives woodcut in wintertime.

The Ottaquechee River is a beauty. You can view it at overlooks on the roadway and take in some foliage with it. The coveted bridge crosses it with it is a country view. Of farmland and cows.

We took the bridge back after going to Sugarbush Farm. During our stay in Vermont we saw and drove though many covered bridges and loved it. Such a beautiful area to visit.

Visiting Woodstock (4 Replies)
I'm planning to visit Woodstock one day this coming weekend, arriving mid-morning. I know it will be crowded, so would appreciate suggestions on the best sequence for these (I prefer quick, browsing visits rather than in-depth studies of museum displays, etc.) Where to park? Walk around downtown. See the Taftsville Covered Bridge Walk along the Ottaquechee River Climb Mount Tom (the easier, less steep route) Billings Farm and Museum Sugarbush Farm Lunch at Woodstock Farmer's Market...More

To walk the downtown, which will take about 1/2 day at most, you can usually find a spot somewhere downtown. The Taftsville covered bridge is visible from rte 4 a few miles east of the downtown. There is also a covered bridge in the village of Woodstock. The trailhead for Mt Tom is close to the town center, and has a parking area. . Billings farm is a few miles outside the town center and has a large parking lot. Sugarbush Farm is up in the hills a few miles from Woodstock. All of your stops...More
