We came in December and we’re almost alone. There are no park rangers and no one was checking any permit after we tried email, txt and telephone to do this in the proper way.

After we left the area I received an email that said the emails don’t work anymore.

It seems they just don’t want people to travel in this area maybe because of the Griffon Vultures that are nesting above the trail. We saw many of them flying right above our heads which was beautiful.

The hike is ok but coming from national parks outside of Spain, Graselma is only at a state park level in my mind

You need a permit to access this trail. To get a permit you need a Spanish cell number. This is a mostly easy trail surrounded by greenery. Once you start the descent it's intense but well worth the caverns at the bottom.

A magical place in the hot mountains. And those vultures. I recommend it, but it's not easy😊 Take water with you, because in the summer there is none in the canyon. And good condition. Beautiful and interesting nature.

If you want to visit this canyon as an individual good luck! The ‘official’ email addresses on the park website reject incoming emails. Phone calls to the numbers given go unanswered. Having driven past an empty car park at the mouth of the canyon we went to the tourist office to apply in person for a pass - impossible for the next month!
I hate to be cynical but have to conclude that all the passes are directed to the commercial companies offering trips to the canyon.
