About
The Old Olive Tree, a symbol of the city of Bar, is the oldest tree in Europe – it has been there for over 2,000 years. It grows in the place Mirovica on the fifth kilometre from the city of Bar to Ulcinj. This natural monument is older than any written monument about the city of Bar and its inhabitants. The Old Olive Tree in Mirovica is a natural monument protected by the law in 1963. It is over 2,000 years old and is considered to be the oldest tree in Europe. Its circumference is 10 m. The legend says that feuding families would come to the Old Olive Tree and this is where they would make peace.

Do not make a detour on purpose
The soul of this tree is decaying and what we see are the sprouts
2€ per adult: not justified
The space is not completely maintained and there is not even a sign with explanations
Stay outside is enough

The only interesting thing about it is the fact that it's that old and could have witnessed a lot of history and in fact has survived through this history. As a site - nice but nothing special. 2€ entrance fee.

There is not much information of how to get to the olive tree for the visitors, so I just explain what you need to do. Just get the bus Cinj-Stari Bar traveling along the coast line and it stops at the major bus stops which Bar-H.Novi, Bar-Budva, etc stops. Also, the bus stops at the bus station next to the big Orthodox church (near the stadium, sports center) or the Catholic Catedral in the city center. The bus ride from the city center costs .50€ cent. When the bus stops near the big mosque and a small market nearby at the parking lot on the foot of the fortress, leave the area. You may ask about the right bus stop to go to the olive tree. Another option is take the taxi from the bus station or from the end of the bus stop near the fortress. The taxi ride from just outside of the fortress cost 3€ in my experience. It's quite hard to get to the olive tree without knowing the spot. My suggestion is that take the path right side of the mini market at the parking lot, pass the Christian cemetary to the left side of the road, walk forward and across the small bridge with dirty stream. You will see 2 mini market twice and then the olive tree is near the second market. I share the pics of the way back from the olive tree. It took me 20 min or so from the olive tree to the bus station. The taxi could wait for you as there is only the big olive tree at the center and the reception selling the entrance ticket (1€ for adult) and olive products like wooden kitchen wares and soaps (5€). There is no bathroom nor cafe around. Also, there is no taxi waiting for the tourist there. If you want a taxi ride back, you must ride it to get ther and ask him to wait for 5 min photo taking or so.

This unspectacular olive tree stands on a fenced site. Admission costs 2 euros. It's a mystery to me what you pay that money for. Besides the tree, there are 5 other trees on this site. Pretty boring. If you want to take a picture, you can also take it from the outside through the fence.

Recently there was testing and it was found out that this tree is 2240+ yrs old... The only odd thing here is that to visit and see the tree from close you have to pay 1 EUR...

The olive trees are so old in this sanctuary of olive trees. It was an incredible sight to see, it's so hard for me to believe they can be that old! They definitely look very old though, it cost 2 Euro per person to go in to see the trees.

Old olive tree was boring. There wasn't any story about it. Price was 1 euro and that was too much about nothing

We tried to go with using tripadvisor's map and google map navigation. We were there after the sun had gone, may be because of that, we could not find the olive tree shown in photos:( we coold hardly see some smaller and old looking olive trees. There were no one around even for asking. We had to go Tirana airport so we did not have much time to find indeed. It looks day time is a better choice to visit.

The Stara Maslina is to be found in a small park in Mirovica, near Stari Bar, 3 or 4 Km outside the main port and city of Bar. It is neatly identified and cordoned-off by a ring of stones. It was bigger and more rugged than I had expected and somehow managed to persuade me that it was indeed the oldest tree in Europe as it claims. The age has been certified by Istanbul University's "Wood Anatomy and Tree Ring Research Laboratory" as between 2010 and 2476 years old! Fascinating that I wanted to come to this place and even more fascinating that I actually enjoyed looking at and circling an olive tree.......albeit an old one.....or an "Auld Yin" as they say in my country. 1 Euro entry fee grudged by this Scotsman but I suppose it pays for the upkeep.

To say the truth as an Israeli I see dozens of olive trees each day. To pay for a view of an old olive tree even though it's only 2 Euro made me upset and I walked out on the spot. There isn't any thing special in this place or the tree. Go to Greece or Israel and you will find 10's and 100's thousands of olive trees.
To my humble opinion just let people visit it freely.
