    Provincial Portuguese Palace
Palace and estate only recently open to visitors - a privilege to visit. Highlights include the tiles (obviously, this is Portugal) but especially the Upside Down Room which still makes you laugh after 200 years, and the gardens with meticulously clipped hedges surrounding vineyards. The estate has been in the same family since the 16th century, and I would have liked to know more about them (in the fabulous costume display, who might have worn each item and what did they do? How did the family become successful and powerful? How have they interacted with the town, and survived the many changes in Portugal?). The family use part of the house as private accommodation but it would have been very interesting to see the original kitchen. Thanks to Barbara for a knowledgeable and fluent English tour. Wines from the estate are available to buy; initial reports favorable.

The palacio: A "MUST HAVE SEEN" if you visit Portugal !!!
It is a fantastic place to learn within one hour many details of the history of Portugal. Our guide explained in a very calm but impressive way the different rooms in their function, history of the persons that had lived there before, so that I saw myself "transmitted into past time". He gave "the spirit of the palacio" to us and the fantastic pictures at the walls, burned into ceramic plates, telling stories of mythology, scenes of hunting in earlier days and satire. You want more information? Visit the location and get impressed by yourself. I am sure! Dietmar Geyer from Germany
Many thanks for your visit, we hop to see you again!

    Beautiful place to visit
My partner and I visited the palace and were very pleased with the tour, our tour guide and her knowledge of the place and how well she performed in English and with the inside beauty of the palace. It’s definitely a place worth visiting since it’s so rich in story, one thing I would say that caused confusion is how obvious (or not) the place is open to the public since the website does mention the place is open everyday which it is but we were standing in front of the building for a while and tried calling the landline a few times with no answer. We assumed it might have been due to a lunch break and when we came back a little before 2pm the entrance door was indeed open so perhaps it could benefit with more clear information in the main door of how exactly it all works and at what times the door will be close to the public. Other then that if anyone is curious to see the inside of the palace it’s definitely worth visiting!
Many thanks for your visit and you feedback

On one hand, very remarkable visit thanks to our guide, very aware of our poor level of mastering of the portuguese language and nevertheles was very careful that we understand all informations and remain available for our questions. We sincerely thank and congratulate her.
On the other hand, wishing to buy some wine, which we did (3 bottles), it proved impossible to exchange 1 bottle white for 1 bottle red, because the invoice had already been issued 5 minutes earlier. This is ridiculous.

Beautiful place. There were not a lot of people so we were able to have a quiet guided tour, with a lot of interesting details.

We went to this ancient house today. We were 2 couples and although live in Portugal opted to have the fantastic guide speak in English. She gave us a lovely tour of the house and was able to tell us the history of the location with passion and good humour.
The tour was worth every cent of the €10. Hopefully with continued support the owners will be able to continue the renovations and open up all of this lovely old residence.

The guided visit is really informative! You're given many interesting details of the palace and the family. The tile pannels all over the palace rooms are amazing and huge. The decorated ceilings are also beautiful. The guide is very friendly and answer all your questions. And if you're lucky as we were, you'll even meet the Count himself, a very pompous yet friendly man, who talked to us for a while about the palace...

Family had a lovely afternoon at the Palace. The guide was very professional and the visit was a great experience. Interior is very well restored and the tiles are outstanding. You can also buy the family wine and olive oil, which is available in the Palace Shop. I recommend this visit to anyone who lives or is visiting the Viseu area!
