Three friends and I stopped by this small castle / mansion while on a brief road trip through parts of Latvia.

We visited on a Thursday which apparently is one of the days with free entrance.

Lots of nice / impressive rooms, some of the ones on the upper floor contains exhibitions (stuffed animals, old tools etc.).

Some plaques here and there with information, however unfortunately only available in the Latvian language.

The restaurant in the cellar is also worth a visit. We were all very impressed with our lunch at the restaurant.

Lots of free parking space available.

Great place to visit if you are close to Tukums. Very beautiful palace with park, lake, picnic place. It has also restaurant and hotel. Take a walk around the lake to see the palace from the other side.

Beautiful palace, a nice place to visit for a few hours. Friendly staff. A nice park with a small playground for children.

We were driving between Riga and Ventspils and decided to stop here for our picnic. We looked around the gardens and took some nice pictures of the grounds. Lots of seating and a little play area for young children. We didn’t visit the restaurant or go inside but the WC facility outside was one portoloo which was not great! It was a good place for a picturesque picnic.

We stayed 1 night here in Pilskunga (Castle Host) room - which was on a first floor.
Well, my opinion is that it's a bit overpriced for it, and while castle is really great place to look, explore and see, you might think twice if you really want to sleep there as we did.
Since room that we were given to, were apparently not occupied for a long time, while clean, it had dead flies many places, showing that they did not inspected it before giving to us
However, it's design surely matches a castle itself, you really feel like sleeping in castle, and breakfast comes as nice bonus.

HINT:
Wake up EARLY at morning and walk in nearby park and lake, while castle is not open yet for general visitors - this will be great experience!

The castle is great in all seasons and I always got a lot of emotions there. This place hosts a 3-star hotel, seminar facilities, a room for wedding ceremonies, restaurant and rooms for parties. Excursions for newlyweds, a museum, a picnic spot there helpfully provided national culture.

Drove up to see what we thought was a castle. It's an old hunting lodge undergoing work. Not much to see, but it has nice gounds to walk around.
