A MUST DO if you’re a wine lover
Jul 2020 • Couples
We visited this wine estate while being on a trip to Verona and Lake Garda and were looking for a winery that focused on the beautiful Valpolicella wine. The Ugolini winehouse exceeded our expectations by far. The winery is located in a beautiful scenery in the midst of their vineyards, the have a panoramic view over the wine fields and it’s surroundings. The winehouse itself is located in a stunning building which still has its historic look and feel. Moreover we got a lovely (private) tour from Diego, the sommelier, who showed us the vineyards, the winery/producing house and he told us all about the Valpolicella wines and Ugolini’s vision on wine making. Diego was very knowledgeable, well spoken and gave us a lovely tour. At the end of the tour, we tasted three different wines - which had a really interesting and great taste - and they even served some local food on the side. It couldn’t have been better. Therefore we definitely recommend you to visit this special place and to add this experience to your trip!

Wonderful Winery in the heart of Valpolicella
Feb 2020
Visited Ugolini winery recently and enjoyed the lovely hospitality of Maria Giuditta who is the granddaughter of one of the key persons instrumental in developing the Ugolini winery. With an approach dedicated to organic techniques this visit allowed us to appreciate the remarkable efforts made to produce excellent wines. The indigenous grapes of Valpolicella are especially suited to the local terroir. The skill of the winemaker in blending the various grapes is what creates that magic in a bottle of Ugolini wine. Highlighted during the tour was the fascinating process of drying the grapes for the production of Amarone and Recioto. Ingeniously the common laborers of years ago took the leftover pomice from making Amarone and used it to improve the basic Valpolicella creating another great wine style Ripasso. We tasted the classic lineup including Valpolicella, Superiore, Ripasso, Recioto and Amarone. My favorite was the Ripasso with it's earthy, leathery medium to full bodied taste which begins to approach the weight and complexity of Amarone. However at the 20 Euros price point the Ripasso is a great value.
The placemat used for the tasting is a nice souvenir. It is an artist's rendition of the Fumane valley depicting the Ugolini vineyards. Maria Giuditta could not have been nicer and she sang a beautiful Venetian song for my wife's birthday. 15 minutes away in San Giorgio Di Valpolicella we enjoyed a gorgeous panoramic sunset view of Lake Garda. Another great tip from Maria!

Tenute Ugolini Winery - Outstanding experience!!
Feb 2020 • Friends
Just a short drive out of Verona you will find Valpolicella and the Ugolini Winery. This magical place has Beautiful vineyards & a lovely family run business. The owners and vines have roots in this soil. The main building housing the winery is an old fort built by the Austrians.
The wine is fabulous, the owners friendly, good humored & knowledgeable. A special
Treat is if Maria the granddaughter of the man that planted these roots is your tour guide and you get her to sing Italian opera.
She has enough talent to be singing at La Scala! This was a special part of our trip.
They will also ship wine to the states for you to enjoy at home. 🍷🍷🍷

Beautiful vineyard with friendly staff

There are many vineyards to choose from, but this one is one of the best. Went on sister trip and had a very wonderful tour. VERY CLEAN winery! If looking for authentic, Italian vineyard experience, would recommend stop here.

Excellent wine: the special ingredient being the people behind it!
Aug 2019
Having been fortunate enough to visit vineyards across Europe and Southamerica, our visit to Tenute Ugolini was a special one. We were welcomed by the winemaker who also took us on a tour around the estate including the wine cellar. Having someone with that kind of knowledge telling you about the wines you are about to taste is very special and valuable. This place is full of passion for the wines they produce and all our questions about the production and the varieties were answered. Our wine tour lasted 4 hours instead of 2 because of the love for the wine the people have working there. We felt that love and we never wanted to leave!

Regardless if you are passionate about wine or just want to learn some more about it: this is a must-do in Valpolicella! You´ll leave having tasted some excellent wines AND be full of appreciation for the people who make it.

A lovely winery, a must do in Valpolicella
Jul 2019 • Family
Visited Ugolini. It’s a beautiful estate! It was a bit crowded egen we arrived so we got a tour in the villa and a ”privat” tasting in the wonderful kitchen of the villa. Very nice wine, professional and very friendly staff.

Passion and Personal Care Make Great Wine (and people)
Jul 2019 • Business
There is nothing that enchants visitors to Italy more than the Italian passion for those things that are superb in this country of excellencies. Valpolicella needs no introduction to wine lovers, but to really feel what this versatile red is made of, a trip to the area just east of Lake Garda is a must. If there is anyone who will tell you exactly why Valpolicella is such a great wine producing area, it is Giambattista Ugolini, the eldest of three brothers who are natives to Fumane, one of the three areas where Valpolicella, Amarone, and Recioto are produced.
We spent one of the most intriguing days of our trip visiting the Ugolini estate and learning from Giambattista first hand about the vineyards, the struggles to keep crops organic (and a ten year break in production!), his work with the University of Verona to study local soil and climate change, ending up with a cordial tasting of all the goodness that comes from his love for the homeland and a family business handed down to him from his grandfather. Hop on their website and reserve your tour. It will be the highlight of your trip to Italy ... if you ever leave Valpolicella ;)

We visited for one of the wine tastings but ended up with a tour of the vineyards. Mario drove us around and told us about the grounds and Valpolicella. We just never wanted to leave and will definitely visit again if we are in the area. So lovely and amazing people.

Beautiful winery, lovely wines!

We spent the morning at Ugolini and were met by Arianna for our tour which I had reserved by email. She was so pleasant and knowledgeable and took us down to the cellar where we could see the wine barrels and hear about the wine making process. We were able to walk in the vineyard a little bit and she explained the way they cultivate the vines. After this we returned to the Villa where we were shown the property and began our tasting of 5 wines with salami and cheese. It was just lovely. We tasted Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Ripasso, Amarone and Recioto. We had descriptions of each wine and ample time to ask questions during the tasting. It was a gorgeous winery with attention paid to every detail. The views are so beautiful and the wine top notch. Truly magnificent and well worth your time. Additionally, wine shipment back to the States was easy and relatively inexpensive.

Arianna was lovely. She was very willing to answer any questions we had and was a great resource!

We will be back for sure!

Perfect day! Wonderful hosts.

We opted for the tasting and tour Valle Alta to give us an introduction to the wines of the Valpolicella. We had been trying Valpolicella in the US before our trip to Italy but I have to say what we had sampled in the US pales in comparison to the Ugolini wines. When you take the tour and you see the passion they put into their wines, of course they are going to be exceptional. We had a full range of samples, from the Valpolicella to the Amarone. which was outstanding. The first three wines we sampled on their beautiful terrace in front of the Villa with a view down the valley. Gorgeous sunny day drinking their wines on their beautiful estate — we just didn't want to leave. Then the Amazon which we sampled in the Valle Alta which is their highest vineyard. They took us up to the vineyard in a jeep so no climbing vineyard roads. It was harvest time and we got to see the care they take in harvesting the perfect grapes. A very memorable experience — thank you Davide.
Couple of tips — the tour of the villa was very nice and worth some time, they will ship wine back for you and gps directions are a little dicey. Just take SP 33 from the really big circle north toward Fumane and keep looking on your left of the road for the Ugolini sign on a big barrel. Good luck. It's worth the trip.
