This is a wonderful church with a very special meaning to locals as one of their saints. Whilst the church is open regularly and has a full range of Masses, it can be difficult to find anyone to guide you around. This is because it is run by nuns, there are not that many of them and they are often very busy with their normal days work and prayer. If you have time and speak some Italian, or know someone who does, it is worth arranging a short visit and to see the wonderful side chapel.

We rang the bell, hoping to have a Nun take us through to the cloister and garden, but no one came, so we left without seeing these supposedly lovely places. The church itself is Baroque in character, so its ancient charm has been lost in the later decoration .

Beautiful church with the body and preserved heart of Sister Chiara on site. Sister had a vision that God put a cross in her heart, and upon death, an autopsy reveal a distorted aorta in the shape of a crucifix, a religious relic on medieval pilgramages. Very interesting site, even for non-catholics like myself.

This part of Italy can not be seen, the small town of Montefalco is a must if you visit Umbria. The sanctuary is very nice, I recommend to visit. You can't understand the atmosphere of this land if we don't go personally.

Located just outside from the old city walls of Montefalco, this is an interesting monastery with adjoining church. It was founded at the end of the thirteenth century, from Chiara of Montefalco. Chiara was proclaimed a saint in the nineteenth century, and isn't to be confused with St. Chiara of the nearby city of Assisi, which lived a few decades before and was collaborator of Francesco. Despite these ancient origins, the church of the monastery has a more modern layout, having been rebuilt in the sixteenth century. It's still interesting for the urn containing the body of St. Chiara, an object of special veneration. Just a chapel of the church has preserved valuable, beautiful frescoes, of Umbrian-Tuscan school, dated at the foundation era. The monastery is home to nuns (in number that decreases continuously) that follow the rule of enclosure. One of those, on request, accompanies the visit of the cloister and of the garden: true oasis of peace, to be appreciated even by non-believers.
