About
Truffle hunting in the beautiful Umbrian hills, an unforgettable culinary experience, a day spent in the company of colorful locals, a stroll through some stunning countryside... The Wild Foods Gastronomical Adventure is a piece of Italy you will never forget. You spend a day immersed in authentic traditional Italian company, culture and cuisine. You hunt truffles, cook truffles, eat truffles, as well as get to experience an amazing part of Italy far away from the usual tourist trails. You also experience some traditional 'wild' cuisine, maybe wild boar stew, sauteed hare, or roast guinea fowl. It's great for foodies and wine-lovers, or for anyone just wanting to immerse themselves in the landscape, people and culture of Umbria.

We spent about 10 days in Italy (mostly in Umbria) but this was THE highlight of our trip. No joke, I think we will all remember this day forever.
Much like the other reviewers have mentioned, this family/village is so incredibly kind and warm...you'll feel like a part of their family about an hour into your adventure. We were greeted with espressos and a quick rundown of what to expect and then piled into trucks that took us up into some of the most beautiful terrains. Luca commanded, praised, and rewarded the pups for their hard work and once they found all they could, we found ourselves tailgating in a paddock with sheep and adorable working sheep dogs. We enjoyed eggs with truffles (yum!) and prosecco (also yum!). Mac and Luca then took us back into their village where Francesca whipped up some of the most delicious handmade pasta. They served us wine, cheese, and meats all while we visited with some of their family members. When it was time for dinner, we were hosted in the most beautiful and intimate chef's kitchen that rivaled any Michelin-starred meal I've had. While eating, we were entertained by Fabiola and Francesca with an occasional greeting by Dante - Mac and Francesca's adorable son. It was like a scene from a movie that you never wanted to end. I cannot wait to return to stay for a longer period of time. This family showers you in hospitality that you cannot believe. We all nearly teared up when we had to leave.
DO NOT MISS THIS ADVENTURE!

Wild Foods Italy was the ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT of our time in Umbria. The combination of the warmth of the welcome (with espresso), the gorgeous hike in the unparalleled countryside with the truffle hunters and friends (sweet dogs), the couple pounds of found truffles, the pasture snack of scrambled eggs with truffles (and Prosecco) amidst the sheep and friends, the truffle bruschetta hot off the wood fired stove, and then the finale unbelievable homemade meal back at the house. The day EXCEEDED expectations and will be a lasting memory. We are so grateful.

This was the final leg of a three week tour in Europe, and was the perfect way to wind down and immerse ourselves in some local culture after traveling across three countries with multiple stops in some of the biggest cities in Europe.

We had an amazing time at the Black Truffle Lodge. Fabiola, Francesca, Mac, Luca, Giovanna and Uncle Frank all added so many memories to the entire experience!

Their hospitality was so warm and caring. Not pretentious, just real people who love showing you how they live.

Be ready for amazing views, unforgettable experiences where you hunt truffles with Luca and the dogs, eat delicious food in amazing settings and carry on at whatever pace suits you perfectly. We've been home for a week and already talked about going back!

We stayed at the lodge for 4 days and it was well worth it.

This is the type of place you hesitate to review so you can keep it all to yourself. It is a truly an original and engaging experience, with great food and great people, and most of all a better understanding of the region and culture. (plus prosecco).
It is well worth your time and will be the highlight of your trip.

When we return it will feel like reuniting with family.

Mac, Francesca and Luca made our day a truly wonderful experience. During the drive up to Pettino, you feel the sense of true Umbrian countryside, of peace and tranquility, and the rural way of life. Mac collected us from Pettino, and after a brief coffee, Luca took us and another charming group of 4 up into the hills with the dogs, for a couple of hours of truffle hunting. On our way back we stopped and Luca cooked scrambled eggs, lavishly grated with truffle, and their own pecorino cheese, whilst we drank Prosecco (liberally poured by Mac!) Then, in a wonderfully timed moment, the shepherd arrives with (I would say) 100 sheep and Maremmana dogs, just to add to the whole experience. Finally, we returned to the farm where Francesca created homemade tagliatelle in front of us, and the cooked it, topped of course with oil and grated truffles, and then some sausages and pork chop, and a tiramisu to finish us off!
Such an experience, it gave us a real insight into the rural way of life. It's a day we will remember for a long time.
Thankyou Francesca, Mac and Luca for creating this great way to see it!

The 2 nights we spent at the lodge were the highlight of my 9 day Italy adventure. We ate Francescas homemade cheese from their sheep, ate her handmade pasta and drank local wine. Our appetivo and prosecco every evening served by Fabiola on the patio was unbelievable. The sheep, the mountain, the truffle hunt, the sheepdogs a treasure. The family is kind and generous. Fabiola was always just a call away to assist in any way. Our private apartment was spotless and the private Jacuzzi is a small pool! This was the best mother daughter experience to date.

What a wonderful country side experience in Umbria. The truffle hunting is of course amazing however the real highlight is to see a working farm and experience time with the incredible family that do it justice after so many generations. The lunch that follows the hunt, along with the preparation experience is also spectacular. Such a relaxed and amazing experience out of the city that is highly recommended!

This was a fantastic day, spent in an isolated, though beautiful part of Umbria. Francesca and Mac were perfect hosts. We started out with a nice introduction and then went out into the countryside to watch the dogs hunt and retrieve truffles. That was really fun to see. on the way back, we stopped for fresh scrambled eggs with truffles and then back at their place. We had a lovely handmade pasta meal which was fabulous and very filling. Overall, I highly recommend this experience. It is much more than hunting for truffles, and overall a wonderful exposure to unique aspect of Umbria.

This was THE best tour we’ve done in our 5+ visits to Italy. We had an incredible day full of truffle hunting, eating amazing food, having great conversation, playing with puppies, and drinking incredible local wine. My only regret was not booking a room at Wild Foods overnight as we never wanted to leave! We definitely will be returning with family and friends in the future. Thanks for the beautiful hospitality!

My wife and I wanted to do something unique and outside of Rome. We had the most amazing and perfect day truffle hunting! The detailed description of the website is 100% accurate - we got picked up from the train station, truffle hunted for an hour, had a snack with truffles in the open fields, and had the best homemade gourmet lunch. The entire family was warm and hospitable. I highly recommend this great culinary adventure to everyone!
