About Wild Foods Italy
Truffle hunting in the beautiful Umbrian hills, an unforgettable culinary experience, a day spent in the company of colorful locals, a stroll through some stunning countryside... The Wild Foods Gastronomical Adventure is a piece of Italy you will never forget. You spend a day immersed in authentic traditional Italian company, culture and cuisine. You hunt truffles, cook truffles, eat truffles, as well as get to experience an amazing part of Italy far away from the usual tourist trails. You also experience some traditional 'wild' cuisine, maybe wild boar stew, sauteed hare, or roast guinea fowl. It's great for foodies and wine-lovers, or for anyone just wanting to immerse themselves in the landscape, people and culture of Umbria.

The most wonderful experience! Can't recommend it enough. Much more than a truffle hunt, you get to see, taste, smell, hear Umbria at it's heart. Well managed, light walks, lot's of explaining and pointing out interesting things in nature, wonderful foods, stories, wine and people. Grazie tanto, - we will be back!!!

What a wonderful way to spend the day, and learn about life in Umbria! After meeting the family (and their sleepover guests!), and a quick coffee, we were out in the 4x4s, up into the mountains, in the safe hands of Luca and Alessandro. We loved walking in the woods and fields, while the truffle hunting dogs enthusiastically got on with their work - and Alessandro was so informative and passionate about sharing the details of his work with us. Meeting Mac and the sheepdogs (that description is insufficient to describe these magnificent animals!) was another real highlight, as was enjoying the delicious scrambled eggs, with the fresh truffles of course, along with a glass or two of prosecco to wash it down, and in such a stunning mountaintop setting! Back in the village, there were more delicious treats - prosciutto crudo and bruschetti - while watching Francesca effortlessly make pasta, before enjoying a wonderful meal of the freshly made pasta with truffles, guinea fowl, sausage (they even got my boys to enjoy zucchini, which is a miracle in itself!), a beautiful desert and coffee, all washed down with the very drinkable local wine. Our only regret was that Covid-19 protection measures prevented the others from joining us for the meal. What a day - Francesca, Mac and family, Alessandro and Luca, and everyone we met could not have been more friendly, and we truly felt that we were welcomed into their community for the day (and I hope we didn't interfere too much with Dante's Birthday celebrations!). Thank you all so much - and my sincere apologies if I have forgotten, mistaken or mispelled anyone's name - I blame the wine!

I mean what a day...we arrived to Pettina and Luca took us to the village...and there she was..Martina..the most amazing PIG ever..the village pig..cantankerous and fabulous!!! Every village needs a Martina!! We started off with cappuccinos and biscuits then we headed to the hunting area with Luca, Alessandro, and the dogs. It was such an amazing trip..we found out that hunting with pigs is illegal because they destroy the root system of the trees where the truffles grow and ultimately the truffles - the dogs were fabulous. We found about an ounce and a half of truffles. When we finished we headed to the mountain top where we had scrambles eggs served with our fresh truffles and Prosecco..can it get any better? All of this while enjoying beautiful mountain views!! Heaven!! It keeps going we headed back to the village where Francesca made from scratch fresh Tagliani pasta while we sipped on homemade wine and fresh cheese (that she made) and prosciutto!! Is your mouth watering yet? It should be!! When she finished making the pasta we headed to their demo kitchen and she made our lunch..let the wine and pasta flow!! It was AMAZING!! Please if you have a chance - go on this tour!! It will not disappoint!! Thank you Wild Foods Italy for an unforgettable experience!! Ciao!!

This is one of the best mini-excursions we’ve been on. Mid morning start with an espresso from the family farm. A talk with the family about truffles and funding them. A chance to meet lots of friendly working dogs and cats (and Martina the pet pig). Then off into the hills to go truffle hunting with the dogs. After an hour or so we met with a flock of sheep and their shepherd for some Prosecco and scrambled eggs with freshly grated truffle. Then back to the farm for a demonstration of fresh pasta making with a late, very hearty lunch with the family that run the business. The family were all friendly, chatty and knowledgeable. I had the best time.
