We visited this winery on our Gusto Wine Tour! This is a beautiful family run winery with excellent wines. They were very creative in coming up with unique art for their used wine barrels. We had lunch there which was superb! The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. We are now enjoying a bottle of their le tese (Umbria Bianca) at home.

An out of the way vineyard but worth the visit. The vineyard offers a picturesque view of the valley. Devis, third or fourth generation, provided our tasting. Admittedly, I didn’t know much about Montefalco wines but learned quickly. I’m a red wine drinker but was so impressed with his white, I bought a couple of bottles. There was no pressure to purchase. Tried the olive oils but didn’t buy. The wines were the star.

Driving up to the beautiful vineyard we we greeted by the two patron puppies! After taking in the picturesque view of the valley, we had a very enjoyable wine tasting. Our host Devis was gracious and informative. For each of the 8 wines and olive oil that we tasted he offered food pairing suggestions. He explained the history of his family-owned vineyard and of the Montefalco region in general. We were very satisfied with his selection and bought several bottles of wine to take home. Very relaxed environment.

Visited with family for a wine and olive oil tasting with a lunch of cold meats and cheese. Every wine and oil was described in excellent English and just the right amount of detail. It was great just sitting and relaxing overlooking the valley. They have very friendly dogs, one of whom decided to follow us along the road in our cars all the way out of the estate and on to the road!

We kind of stumbled upon Agricola Romanelli by getting lost. How fortunate for us! We were greeted by Rita the owner. They have a small tasting room with a majestic view of the valley all the way to Assisi. Rita speaks juuust a little English and we speak juuust a little Italian so we were fine. She started us with their white wines which were very nicely done. They were much better than the other whites we had at the larger industrial wineries. Then she started their red line ups and again, they were much better than the larger commercial wineries. Then her son Devis, the winemaker, arrived and he speaks very good English. He described their wines and the area, as well as, the 4 generations of wine making his family has done. In this region of Montefalco, Umbria the main varietal is Sagrantino. It is a very bold grape with strong tannins and cherry fruit. Devis has done a good job of keeping the grape true to the varietal yet not letting the tannins overwhelm you. This place is friendly, down to earth, has good wine, and a spectacular panoramic view. I wish we had brought a lunch. We could have stayed for hours. Oh, and they have two cute dogs that love people and have good manners. Made us miss ours back home. This is not a tour bus type visit...sit down and talk with them and relax.
