Mondays in lower season leaves slim pickings but Corciano's lovely & Museum a delight!
May 2016 • Couples
Corciano has lots to offer for sure, but we felt it a little like skiing in a late April rain with Mondays having most small town Umbrian options closed, including some of its premium religious sites and attractions. It's a very smart and attractive town, and I'd return in another more timely visit to explore its attractions more fully.

Having said that, our visit was worthwhile beyond the attractive town itself for the Antiquarium di Corciano. Having been to two larger Etruscan museums elsewhere (most notably Cortona's most impressive one), we were wondering if it might begin to be a bit of overkill.

This proved untrue as Corciano had very interesting displays and historic treasures more than fully worthy of a very inexpensive ticket. For those who have seen little of Etruscan history, art and architecture, it's a great place to start and we recommend it heartily. The chariot, and colorful stonework art were particularly memorable.

There is more to Corciano than just the Etruscan museum

I'm surprised there isn't more information on this lovely and interesting medieval town near Perugia. The original historic center is enclosed in it's thick '400 walls . The only city gate still standing,Santa Maria,is at the top of wide, curving stone stairs( very picturesque), a very lovely entrance to a typical and yet unique Umbrian "castello",one of the most important of those surrounding Perugia in the Middle Ages, documented from the XII century. We've attended the August in Corciano Festival since it's origin in 1965 and each year the art and artisinal exhibits have grown in number and quality. Concerts, theatrical representations as well as the historical parade in medieval costumes have drawn crowds from all over the region. At Christmas the entire center becomes a Nativity village with lifesize, realistic statues dressed in appropriate clothing, are scattered in the streets and piazzas doing domestic or labor chores. There's much more to see than just the small,if valid,Etruscan museum mentioned in other reviews.

The Antiquarium is a very well curated source of information about the Etruscan period in Corciano. They house some of the artifacts found at the Strozzacapone site, and I would recommend visiting both places together. It is also the site of the tourist information office, so a good place to start your visit to Corciano in general.
