Good photo op
Jun 2021
I stopped inside the Library of Virginia during my visit to Richmond in June 2021. I went inside to get out of a thunderstorm. It was very nice to look at and a good photo op. There was a very nice gift shop and the lady there was very helpful.

Doing family genealogy, I was greeted in a manner only typical of southerners. The staff had no problem in dropping whatever they were doing to assist me. This is a beautiful library. Well laid out and loads of books and information.

Thank you staff.

Hope to Return
Dec 2019
I had not been to the Library of Virginia and popped in just before closing time on a recent visit to Richmond. It looks extremely well organized with plenty of helpful staff. I hope to return, when I have more time, to do genealogical research.

This place is so full of information. I am working on family genealogy and its never ending. I have spent hours here already and I can spend so many more more hours here. I love this place. My favorite place. I wish it was open 24, 7 or at least until like 9 p,m.

I so wish I lived closer. This library is phenomenal. The archivist was so helpful and you can pull your own records so you don't have to constantly be at someone's mercy. Great, great library

This library is excellent especially for Virginia research of American historical figures. Library of Virginia have books, thesis manuscripts, ancestry research, and Civil War material. This is an excellent library for research and study; I do not recommend returning books past their due date as there are hefty fines.

This is the Library which contains many records for various counties that helps with your Genealogy Research. I have found many of my families names from the various counties of Virginia. They have microfilm copies of the records and you can spend many hours and days researching. They have the viewing machines and you are free to use them while there. You can also make copies. There is a parking garage under the building where you can park and it's free with the stamping of your parking ticket before leaving the library. You can obtain a Library Permit for use while visiting the Library.

Rare Gem in the Heart of Richmond with exhibits and pictoral history dating to the 1600's!

I visit this Library frequently to Digitalize documents dating to BEFORE the first settlers arrived in Virginia. The Exhibits change frequently, focusing on Voting, Emancipation, Native Americans, Prohibition, Bill of Rights, Revolutionary War, Civil War and Women's Suffrage. It's wonderful and FREE with ample FREE parking and only a few blocks to the State Capitol, parks and other places of interest. Family friendly, with affordable snack bar and excellent gift shop on site.
