Ruined by leftist Governor
Aug 2020
The Capitol Grounds and building were once far more impressive in the past before the destructive leftist Governor stripped out at least a dozen statues, busts, and plaques. It was all very beautiful and popular on tours, but it was all removed in a move akin to Stalin and ISIS. We use to bring family and friends there, but the Capitol Square and much of Richmond has now lost its cultural appeal. The biggest draw now is the George Washington, Stonewall Jackson, and McGwire statue on the grounds and the George Washington, VA Presidents, and Thomas Jefferson statues inside.

See them while you can
Apr 2021
Very nice statues. See them while you can as I am sure the dictator of Virginia is going to have it removed soon.

We went here Friday evening and walked around to see the monuments and nobody else was in sight. It was quiet and a good night on the Capitol grounds.

Wonderful Park
Feb 2020
After vising the VA capital we walked around this park. It was very beautiful. The monuments around the Capitol building are so well done, and so impressive, I am amazed and humbled by them. It is very hard to find parking. That was very frustrating. at one point i was about to give up. There is too much construction going on.

Nice park with statues
Jan 2020
Nice area to walk about enjoy the grounds of the Capitol Building with the Governor's residence nearby. The walk in the park is nice with statues to see of famous figures-namely Virginians.

Nice Park

This is the nice area surrounding the Virginia State Capital. There is the Statue of George Washington on his horse. There are other interesting statues.

Visit with out-of-town family
Jun 2019
We visited the Capitol Grounds and Virginia Capitol with family visiting from out-of-state. It's a beautiful campus...impressive statuary and mini-history lessons all together.

Beautiful Place!!
May 2019 • Couples
We had a little bit of a hard time finding it & had to switch GPS maps. Put in the physical address.
This place is beautiful & the grounds as well. So much history. You can take a guided tour or go on your own. We chose to do this on our own because we were short on time. If you are in the area it’s worth a stop. Make sure you go all the way up those stairs once you get beyond the cafeteria area.

The best part of the Capitol visit
Mar 2019 • Couples
Being a fan of fine art, I am always interested in sculpture. The monuments around the Capitol building are so well done, and so impressive, I am amazed and humbled by them. The monument to George Washington is so complex with all of the other figures and historical references, you need a guidebook, just to get it all in. I'm sure there probably is one somewhere. If not, maybe I'll write one.

pretty but hilly

Enjoy seeing it but be prepared to walk up stairs and hills. I enjoyed the water fountains but have back issues and the uphill walking was a little much.

Could not find this place
Jan 2019 • Couples
We drove in circles and could not find a park. Very frustrating. This was the only thing on our list to do before we left town.
