I love seeing live music and have attended over 50 concerts in my lifetime but my experience with The National was terrible. I took my daughter to see All Time Low for her birthday and they were great musicians and we enjoyed their performance. The venue was something else entirely. First off the sound system was way off for the first two bands. Terrible mixing and the singers were drowned out by the band. Part of this is that both groups were playing at a sound level you would want at the Richmond Coliseum not for a broom closet. If you like being surrounded by a bunch of twenty something jerk offs who spill beer and drinks on you without apologizing to you then The National is your place.

I love seeing the artistry involved with watching a band put on a live show. Their are other venues in town that provide that experience. The National should be converted to a dance club or general nightclub and leave the concerts to other venues that are better equipped to handle it.

I visit the National to see rock shows. I love this venue due to the old opera feel. There is nothing like rocking out to ornate ceilings, box seats, second floor balcony with insanely great acoustics. The only downside is parking, either prepare to pay or drive around trying to find street parking. Either way you'll probably end up walking for a good minute. But whats not to love when walking around Richmond! Aside from parking the venue is worth it.

The National is very drafty and the seats are not that comfortable. It has a lot of old-school charm.

This beautiful, old theatre is a wonderful concert venue. The acoustics are great and the theater was staffed by courteous and efficient employees. One can enjoy being in the midst of the stand-up crowd on the floor, or head upstairs to sit in the theater seats and get a birds eye view of the stage. My husband and I will definitely be back!

Parking isn't the greatest: street parking or pay for parking lot. The ceilings are beautiful and acoustics sound great. Seen several shows here: Interpol, Band of Horses, Built to Spill, The Mountain Goats, Violent Femmes, Flaming Lips, etc and all were great.

We saw Lake Street Dive at The National and it was a blast! The sound is fabulous and we had seating that was very comfortable. The chairs are stadium chairs with cup holders but it was comfortable. Highly recommend!

We've seen many shows here and love the venue. As any downtown place, parking can be a bit tricky. There is a paid lot right across the street that is great when not full. The layout of the venue is great as there are two or three bars that make service easy.

I've seen some great shows here. Some sitting (Aimee Mann, Todd), some standing (Elvis Costello) and the shows have always been very good. Excellent sound system and generally a comfortable venue. The general admission shows can be a little crazy, but that's part of the appeal. The Todd R. show last month (?) was incredible. The Nat was a perfect venue for what Todd as doing. My biggest complaint: those drink prices! For dixie cup sizes. If they'd make the prices more reasonable, I'd have more drinks. And the old 1928 National Theatre building is a treasure!

The venue was only so so . Then to me the venue or acts didn't command $30 pricing for 2 drinks which I was not happy about. If the cups weren't almost the size of mouthwash cups I could have let that slide. But it truly was an insult .
