"We're not your dad's Science Museum!" says Science Museum of Virginia Director/CWO (that's Chief Wonder Officer) Richard Conti. "Our newly re-imagined Museum is a place that is relevant to your life and fun!"Our mission: Inspiring Virginians to enrich their lives through science. Our Story: Since its founding by the Virginia General Assembly in 1970, the Science Museum of Virginia has become the premier center for hands-on science education in Virginia. The Museum has permanent exhibitions on health, energy and natural science and includes hundreds of interactive exhibits, fascinating artifacts, live animals, a theater company and cutting edge technology. The 76-foot Dome Theater creates the ultimate "you are there" experience with the largest film screen in Virginia wrapped around you. The Museum also features visiting exhibitions, educational programming, overnight adventures, lectures, demonstrations and summer camps. The Museum receives guidance and generous support from community leaders and organizations. The Museum's Board of Trustees is appointed by the Governor and provides oversight and policy guidance. The Science Museum of Virginia Foundation raises funds to support the mission, operations and capital needs of the museum. The Museum is also the parent organization for the Danville Science Center. The Science Museum of Virginia is located in Richmond's Museum District, in historic Broad Street Station designed by renowned architect John Russell Pope, at 2500 West Broad Street.

My family loves museums and we love learning. The Science museum of Virginia was just OK. It was a bit dated and too many of the exhibits were not working. It would have been great for 1992, but not great for 2015. We did very much enjoy the Dome Theater. I wish I had known about the exhibits before I... More

Thank you so much for visiting the Science Museum of Virginia! As a new member, you get free access to our Museum exhibitions - that includes our newest permanent exhibition which will be debuting in 2016 called Speed! While that single exhibit gallery is under construction at the moment, I definitely recommend visiting Boost!, our new Art Lab and seeing... More

The four of us (mom, dad, 9-year old and 6-year old) played for five hours, and still ran out of time. Wholly interactive, imaginative displays enhanced with hands-on activities, gorgeous presentations, and diverse subjects. Loved the educational aspect built into the fun, in every display. Many art projects to reinforce the science. Truly a science museum in the best accessible... More

One of the charming things about this museum is that its housed in an old train station. The staff are exceptionally friendly and because I was there with my son, who is active duty, our admission was free. There are several exhibits and the hands on activities are fun and engaging. We purchased the membership with the idea that we can make more frequent, shorter trips than our initial six hour visit. The kids still love this place and spend much more time here than we expect to. The cafe, The Periodic Table, serves decent food for the kids. I've only purchased the black bean soup for myself, which is really... More

Very nice museum, although it's mostly geared towards kids and hands on science. I would recommend this place for kids, but not for older adults.
