So much to see in a beautiful setting. There are special exhibits as well as permanent exhibits to keep you busy many visits. There are two restaurants that are good and reasonably priced. On Thursday night there is free jazz. If you live in Richmond become a member. It's a great investment

..but it was absolutely fantastic! We didn't even realise just how long we had been in there until I noticed how much my legs hurt, id walked 11,000 steps (according to Garmin!). The exhibits we're incredible and the staff we're all really helpful. i would 100% recommend this to anybody visiting Richmond that appreciates creativity.

First off, this place is FREE. Because my wife and I weren't members, we DID have to pay $5 for all-day parking (which, in Richmond, is a wonderful thing), but considering the quality of this museum, free admittance made me feel a little guilty. Second, it is a beautiful museum and the quality of the exhibits are excellent for a... More

Popped down from DC to see our child at VCU. We had a couple hours and ventured over to Carey Town and the VMFA. What a great facility!! Very clean and wonderful rooms for the displays. Asked about their recommendations and we were totally psyched to hear that they have John Singer Sargent in their "McGlaughlin collection?"! After seeing that,... More

Nothing to see here except Amazing Exhibits! The new building (okay, a few years old) is Richmond's jewel.

My artist wife and I spend a lot of time in art museums having seen the best in major cities over the years. VMFA can hold its own with the best of them. It contains a wide ranging exhibit from ancient times to the modern and postmodern. Rather than go into detail about the contents, suffice it to say you... More

I was very impressed by the collection held here. The layout and map were a bit confusing to understand when trying to find a specific exhibit, but everything I saw while wandering around was great. The Art Nouveau collection, especially the Tiffany Lamps and window, were the highlight. The special exhibit showing Gordon Parks' work was also informative and fascinating.... More

Surprising to find such an amazingly diverse and expansive collection as this. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to art deco furniture, this museum had it all. Great even for those who aren't that into art.

Friendly staff, nice permanent collection, frequent special collections, and a decent cafe. We spent a couple of hours roaming the halls. Great visit!
