I always enjoy visits to the VMFA for both the permanent collection (which rotates) and the special exhibits (fee for these). It is a museum that offers a variety of genres but is not overwhelming large. I tend to focus on one or two sections a visit, but it is possible to do a complete "tour" in a morning or... More

Nice relaxing time. We enjoyed learning more about the american artist and enjoyed viewing the printings and furniture.

A great place to wander for hours. The collections are varied and well presented. The museum is free though I would have gladly paid admission. Allow at least four hours to see everything.

This is actually a lot more than just free and air conditioned... This was an unexpected gem for me. The collection was vast from glass to painting to silver. The architecture and grounds were another pleasant surprise. There was an exhibit on Abstract Expresisonist Women and it was terrific. Check the calendar because there were several options for exhibits, wine... More

The VMFA is a wonderful resource. Not only are its collections and exhibitions first rate, the museum is FREE and open 365 days a year. Its restaurant Amuse has an elegantly modern atmosphere, busy bar and delightful seasonal menu. The BEST Cafe on the first floor is casual, offering sandwiches and salads, and has a large outdoor deck facing a... More

The lovely climate controlled museum is just the place to go on a HOT day where you can enjoy beauty and culture. Fantastic painting, sculptures, and even a hands-on area for kids.

This is one of the finest art collections in the US. It is thoughtfully laid out, and there are representations from so many genres. The cafe has some great food and the gift shop is wonderful. Kids have so many options for seeing the museums. Plus, it's FREE, unless you go in to see a special, temporary collection. Don't miss... More

Good presentation of good art and antiquities. Tho too, too much inclusion of "modern art". The Lewis' didn't do VMFA the favor advertised!

My wife and I (both retired) will visit often during the day hours on weekdays. It's just a great way to spend some leisure time and very inexpensive too! On site restaurant is just a special treat. Great place to spend quality time with whole family. Educational too.
